For starters, your constant attack against me is really wearing thin. I
did not write the article. I did not opine about the article. I just
pasted the article.
You have the unmitigated gall to state, "So, Sue, once again, your rabid
one side of the story really does reality injustice." Please read paragraph
1 as I did not say anything "rabid" or otherwise.
Of course the entire country is starting to move in the direction of
dealing with the pensions. No state except North Dakota can afford to do
anything but. However, the 35 or so states with the "Right to work" laws are by
far better off than places like CA and NY.
You get absolutely NO argument from me about the police and firemen. They
are, in my opinion, some of the worst offenders. However, the system
itself needs a serious revamping. No one should be allowed to collect
permanent disability pensions with tax benefits if they are physically fit to work
full time for instance, as an investigator. I find it just as ludicrous
that they train those same employees to enable them to be gainfully employed
in some other field and once successful, still declare them permanently
disabled. We can no longer afford such nonsense.
I did not EXULT about anything. I pasted a paragraph. I am in full
agreement about, as you put it, the "nutball pension of police and firemen".
The abuse that I see among the various fire departments is outrageous and
their day will come. I say this will full support of my brother, a first
responder on 9-11 and my best friend's son, a fireman in SC getting ready to
move to OH.
Fire and police in CA usually vote Democrat. Ask Jerry Brown, Antonio
Villaraigosa, etc., etc., etc.
The FRAUD you mentioned which is being perpetrated upon the taxpaying
citizens of America regarding "next rank up" does not only work well within the
confines of police and fire. School teachers and court clerks do it all
the time. A supervisor going on vacation will have an underling friend
who's almost ready to retire fill in for them in their absence. The "mental
stress" disability kicks in and their pension is then based on the higher
level salary as you stated.
I don't believe LAPD is eligible for full pension after 20 yrs. I believe
they are on the 30/3 formula as most departments throughout the state.
That would be 3% per year up to a maximum of 90% of full salary. 90% of full
salary at age 48 is not bad at all. Especially since they then usually
become a PI or a consultant. LOL
Statistics also show that only 4% of the roll outs for firemen in So. CA
involve fires and 97% of those are kitchen fires. Most of their roll outs
are for medical issues which drives me insane. Why should a fire engine
show up a considerable length of time before the EMT unit? Why should a hook
& ladder show up at all? Just think of the fuel being wasted. Just as
seeing TWO fire trucks, an engine and a hook& ladder outside of Von's with
engines running everyday around noon is enough to drive one to drink. I have
always said that 2 should go shopping in one of their own vehicles and if
a call for service comes across their radio, they could probably make it to
the scene before the trucks. Their colleagues could transport their gear
I do not know what you are smoking but if you truly believe for one iota
of a second that the conservative view rules the major network media, I want
some of it. CBS, NBC and ABC are owned by registered Democrats and I
don't mean the shareholders. Look at all of the shows that they have refused
to air. Wake up and smell the roses. Hollywood is ruled by Democrats.
Broadway is ruled by Democrats.
I truly do not believe there is any person stupid enough to believe that
maintaining our infrastructure is socialism. Quite the contrary. As more
and more sink holes and pipe eruptions occur, these LIBERAL bureaucrats will
soon realize the ill of their ways. My own neighborhood is a perfect
example. There was a time when Glendale was very conservative. We never had
potholes, we never had pipes bursting underground and our sewer system was
always up to par. Since we transitioned to a "welfare city" with a majority
of our residents being emigrants who refuse to assimilate, we have gone to
hell. Store signs are printed in foreign languages that I cannot even
recognize let alone speak. Therefore there are many, many stores I can not
shop in, not that they want my business. Our city council is as liberal as
they get and our current mayor is a buffoon. We have a Democrat city
council as they are mostly registered Democrats. However, the two Republicans
are just as stupid catering to the welfare recipients who want rent control
According to the FEC, nearly all of the CEO's at the top of the Fortune
500 contribute to a general company or privately organized political action
committees. Those PAC's and general companies give primarily to the Dems.
For the 2008 elections, the percentages were 85% Dems, 15% GOP for the
actual dollars. For the personal CEO contributions, the Dems took in 75% while
Republicans received 25%.
I do not voice "old party line" thoughts. Quite the contrary. However,
when looking at the overall package of our foreign relations, nation
building is sometimes a necessary evil we must sometimes engage in for our
But where you really boil my butt is when you talk about the concept of
