I think I would need a little more information, not knowing hospital
Is it hospital policy that a doctor is to be informed of ANY changes to a
patient? Or is it up to the nurses discretion?
What is the hospital policy on such an incident?
When a trach is downsized, is some bleeding typical? Is it possible the
nurse thought it was just normal bleeding from one being removed and
another inserted? (Again, I'm not familiar with hospital procedures). Or the
doctor thought the same?
If the nurse DID tell the doctor and he did nothing about it, I would
blame the Doctor on call with not looking in on the patient and not the nurse
who did tell him about the bleeding.
How many other cases of this happening has happened at this particular
Not a happy ending anyway you look at it. :-(
