Training for Mobility and Intercultural Relations / Bucharest, Romania, 2 November 2005

"Mobility, intercultural competence, cultural cooperation in the age of digital spaces. Networking and virtual networking as learning experiences"

’Mobility’ is increasingly becoming a key word in artistic practice, cultural management and policy. Yet, like all ’jargon’, it means many things to many people. Cultural management trainers, teachers and practitioners need to equip their students and collaborators with the necessary understanding, facts and tools to be able to work in our increasingly global, mobile environment. Corina Suteu will deliver a training of trainers session designed to equip teachers and coordinators with the material they need to explain ’mobility’ in the cultural field. Studies, bibliography, readers, internet tools, policy developments.

Should you be a cultural organiser, producer, manager or artist, or cultural management teacher/trainer interested in finding more about these issues, but also enabled to perform and further disseminate these training contents, REGISTER FOR THIS WORKSHOP!
The session will take place at the Council of Europe Information Office in Bucharest (6 Alexandru Donici St.), which is partner to this event. The working language will be English.

      Application deadline: 15 October 2005
Contact : Stefania Ferchedau or Katelijn Verstraete

The new issue of the multilingual republicart web-journal is now online

Republicart is a transnational research project exploring and developping progressive practicies of public art.

      ALTERNATIVE ECONOMICS, ALTERNATIVE SOCIETIES
      A project by Oliver Ressler

After the loss of a counter-model for capitalism - which socialism, in its real, existing form had presented until its collapse - alternative concepts for economic and social development face hard times at the beginning of the twenty-first century. In the industrial nations, broadly discussed are only those "alternatives" that do not question the existing power relations of the capitalist system and representative democracies. Other socio-economic approaches are labeled utopian, devalued, and excluded from serious discussion if even considered at all.

This edition of the republicart web journal presents transcriptions from 13 videos from Oliver Ressler’s thematic installation "Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies" focusing on diverse concepts and models for alternative economies and societies, which all share a rejection of the capitalist system of rule.

This collection of works is the fruit of a two-year collaboration in the organisation of a course designed for professional cultural operators in this field. In 2004 and 2005, 50 professionals from all over Europe as well as Japan, the US, Egpyt, and Palestine were able to participate in this course and had the opportunity to learn from each other and add new ideas into this knowledge database.

New deadline for the Call for applications / The Asia-Europe Comics Project

      Organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation
To be held in the sidelines of the International Comics Festival, Brussels

The comics genre has untapped potential to further cross-cultural understanding. Through the use of a common visual language, we can use the comics as a vehicle to raise greater awareness in Asia about Europe and vice versa, and to relate encounters among the regions’ peoples. Asia-Europe Foundation proposes to initiate a collaborative process between Asian and European creators, leading to successive comics publications on such encounters and shared concerns between the two regions.

      New DEADLINE: 31 October 2005, 12pm
