      Hi Friends,

Is 3M Paint protection worth doing for a new car? Does it really make sense doing it as told my 3M below:

      Paint Protection Treatments

      UV Protection
UV Protection against fading prevents paint fade on the car exterior due to exposure to UV rays. It doesn't just protect your car from this natural oxidation but also gives a durable, ultra-high gloss. Recommended for all new cars.

Look forward to your valuable comments.

      Thanks and regards,

      Peter Harrison

Folks, Anyone has dimensions of the Indica standard wheel lug bolt? I m experimenting with spacers (to eliminate fouling) and need to order longer lug bolts.

Hi Peter, I think it should be fine. In highly polluted cities Teflon may protect a bit against acid rain, but I do not think we have that issue here.  Dev

                  Hi Dev,

I took the car as it is from the showroom. No teflon coating was done there. Had two minds on 3M paint protection, but decided not to do that as its just a polish and does not do any protection as such.

                  Thanks and regards,

                  Peter Harrison

to do a proper paint job ??

                    Hi all,

All manufactures do a very good job in painting the car and ensure that it
will last, but that does not mean it does not need any further protection.

Your vehicle will have to endure the elements thru the years to come,
Rains, Sun and daily washing are some of them.

Waxing is the best option to maintain the paint if you can do it yourself
                    or get it done.

Manufacturers advise no coatings of any kind be done for a period of 180
                    days of purchase.

Choose the right product and application.

                    Regards'

The problem is that paint has to be repaired from accident damage over and over if a car is driven in a city like Bangalore. So, it makes very little sense to prolong life indefinitely. There may be a case for teflon in cities with heavy industries (maybe surat, Vapi and such), where acid rain causes rapid paint fade. My own car is 12 years old (Bangalore), and the paint hasn't really faded significantly. I think I agree with Achin Sir, the advantages of these products is overstated.

                      Regards'
