Dr Peter Braam
Thought leader in scalable storage and Sr VP Storage Software for Xyratex
Dr Peter Braam is a thought leader in scalable storage and is Sr Vice
President Storage Software for Xyratex Technology.
He was the founder and CEO of Cluster File Systems Inc. which developed the
Lustre file systems which powers some 60% on the world�s top 100 computers
and was acquired by SUN in 2007. ClusterStor was his next company, acquired
by Xyratex in 2010.
Peter has broad interests in storage software, numerical mathematics and
software engineering. He is an adjunct professor of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences, a fellow of Merton College, Oxford University and advises various
government bodies and research groups on storage and supercomputing.
He received his PhD in 1987 in pure mathematics and subsequently worked with
world top scientists at Oxford where he began to teach Computer Science in
1992. He joined Carnegie Mellon�s faculty in 1996 where he led the Coda
project for 3 years. In 1999, he moved to the Linux industry as a Cluster
and File Systems Architect for Red Hat.
Dr Braam will be in India on Oct 21st, 2010 to talk about �Exascale File
Systems�. In his talk he will review the landscape and market for
supercomputing clusters from peta to exa scale from now till approximately
2020. The requirements for these installations have implications for the
architecture of their storage infrastructure. All this and more in a
presentation with illustration and approaches in Lustre File Systems.
The event is at Taj Deccan, Hyderabad on 21st October 2010.
