Just wanted to let you know that the Duke Ellington Jazz Festival starts today.  There is a variety of jazz and jazz artists.  Many big events are free including Jazz on the National Mall.  "Jazz in the Hood" is a good deal because its hosted at smaller venues all over the city.  Mostly bars and restaurants, so they are generally free admission. I'll be hosting many of the U Street Jazz in the Hood events.  So check out the site and see if there's anything of interest to you.
