      MEETING FOR DECEMBER

      DECEMBER 13th and JANUARY 10th

On December 13 and January 10th, the HEFAPII (=Health Equality For All People In Israel) branch of IEA held meetings at the Henrietta Szold/Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing. Spiritual Care was the topic for both meetings and was facilitated by Dr. Arielle Warner. Dr. Warner specializes in psychotherapy, spiritual care, research and education. She is a therapist and spiritual care provider for people dealing with serious illness.

At the first meeting, Dr. Warner presented theories and research associated with Spiritual Care, definitions of spirituality and health and discussed the role of spiritual well being in overall quality of life of patients and ways that health care providers can incorporate spiritual care into practice. At this meeting, we were happy to host several members of the Midwifery branch of IEA. The second meeting was devoted to a more experiential session and allowed the group participants to become familiar with spiritual care as an additional resource in healthcare practice.

      MARCH 5, 2012

On March 5th, 2012, the HEFAPII branch of IEA held a meeting at the Henrietta Szold/Hadassah-Hebrew University School of Nursing. The meeting was facilitated by Professor Henry Abramovitch, a clinical psychologist, medical anthropologist and Jungian analyst in Dept of Medical Education, Tel Aviv Medical School, Dr. Abramovitch is past President of Israel Anthropological Association & Israel Institute of Jungian Analysis, as well as co-leader of Saddaqa-Reut group of Interfaith Encounter Association,

The topic for this meeting was "EXPLORING OUR HEALTH BELIEFS: AN EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP".  At this meeting, participants examined:

Understanding our own cultural biases and beliefs - the necessary basis for understanding and working with the health beliefs of Others.

Why do people get sick? How to ask about things you are not supposed to ask about?

This workshop was designed to strengthen healthcare professionals' cultural competence by examining cross-cultural encounter, non-verbal behavior, body symbolism as well as key questions
