      Post Mortem (4)
      ***************

The concluding session of the Post Mortem series took place on Monday 24
June 2002 with some forty participants. It started with the presentation
of the Muslim view by Dr. Muhammad Hourani of the Shalom Hartman
Institute. Dr. Hourani described the way the deeds are weighed after his
or her death - if the good deeds are more than the bad ones, the person
goes to Heaven, otherwise - to hell. If the two are equal - the person get
a waiting-period in which he can prove himself in order to get the better
option. Anyone who died in a war that met the numerous criteria to be
considered a holy war, will get to heaven. Islam emphasizes the value of
life and does not believe in reincarnation. The cemetery is a ritually
un-clean place and there are different approaches to how long it needs to
be kept after it is not used. Some say for ever and some say that when it
is not in use it can be immediately used for another purpose, after all
the bones are collected. The later is the governing approach of the
Wahabies in Saudi-Arabia and it was only in the last minute that the grave
of Prophet Muhammad himself was saved.

Following the presentation a lively discussion arose and after some time,
Dr. Hourani was joined by Rabbi Dov Maimon and Fr. Dr. David Neuhaus as
fellow members of the panel for the concluding discussion of the series.
Following the considerable success of the series it was agreed that we
will continue to hold such series in the future, during the university
      year.
