Official MetOnTour video footage of METALLICA performing the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" at the band's sophomore Orion Music + More festival, which took place June 8-9 in Detroit, Michigan, can be seen below.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo said on the ground at the festival that he was eager to bring the show back to Detroit in 2014. "We've got to come back here, you know," he said. "This is a great place. This city needs it. The weekend has been a blast and I can't wait 'til next year. I've already got ideas for next year, so we're looking forward to it."

As previously reported, METALLICA played a surprise set on June 8 under the name DEHAAN, playing their entire 1983 debut disc "Kill 'Em All" from front to back.

The band's headlining set the following night, which closed out the festival, featured rarities like "Carpe Diem, Baby", "I Disappear" and "Disposable Heroes" alongside the band's more traditional hits and live favorites.

The members of METALLICA were also spotted hanging out at their personal lifestyle exhibits, with James Hetfield seen at his custom car display, Trujillo overseeing the skateboarding at the Vans Vert Ramp, and drummer Lars Ulrich premiering a clip from the upcoming movie "Metallica Through The Never" alongside director Nimród Antal.

The Metallica Museum displayed the bass that Cliff Burton played at his final concert before his 1986 death in a Swedish bus crash, as well as other instruments, stage props and vintage concert flyers.

Robert Trujillo played two other sets during the course of the weekend, first with a reunion of funk-rockers INFECTIOUS GROOVES and then with his own TRUJILLO TRIO.

Spokesperson Charlie Walker of promoter C3 Presents said that around 20,000 attended the first day, with possibly more showing up on Sunday. As for whether Orion will return to Detroit next year, he replied, "We'll go through this one, wrap it up, see what the feedback is . . . Then we'll sit down and try to get a grip on what to do next."

A total of 37 groups, including the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, DEFTONES, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, RISE AGAINST and BASSNECTAR, performed on Orion's five stages.

THE JOY FORMIDABLE was unable to perform their show after arriving late in Detroit due to travel issues.

James Hetfield personally introduced the SILVERSUN PICKUPS and watched their set from the side of the stage.

Cliff Burton's father Ray was in attendance for METALLICA's surprise "Kill 'Em All" performance on Saturday.

Detroit native Bob Seger was rumored to be showing up to sing his classic "Turn The Page" with METALLICA. Although the band played the song, Seger was a no-show.
Stern Pinball, Inc., the world's leading maker of real pinball games and the American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA) Manufacturer Of The Year, announced today their third annual Comic-Con International pinball tournament where players and fans will have the opportunity to play Stern's latest METALLICA Pro machine, celebrating one of the world's foremost heavy metal bands.

San Diego Comic-Con attendees will be able to compete in a pinball tournament for the chance to win a cash prize and pinball backglass by signing up to play at booth #503. The tournament starts July 17 on Preview Night at Comic-Con. Qualifying participants will be selected to return if they advance in the tournament. The finals will be held on Saturday, July 20. Stern is excited to offer game enthusiasts, METALLICA devotees and comic fanatics a chance to experience first hand the highly sought-after METALLICA pinball game.

"Since their launch in May, Stern's METALLICA machines quickly developed a massive following," said Jody Dankberg, director of marketing and licensing for Stern Pinball. "We are thrilled to 'officially' debut the Pro version at San Diego Comic-Con where our craftsmanship will be put to the test as players experience the unique features and addictive nature of METALLICA pinball."

In addition to the annual tournament, Stern Pinball will sponsor a few attention-grabbing giveaways, including a Kirk Hammett guitar, and will also host an exclusive autograph session with famed pop culture artist Dirty Donny Giles on Thursday, July 18 at 2 p.m.

The METALLICA game continues both the Stern Pinball and the Stern family tradition of producing quality pinball machines for young and old. The company traces its lineage to Philadelphia in the 1930s when Sam Stern entered the business of operating pinball games. Sam Stern subsequently became part owner and president of Williams Manufacturing, a pioneer in the pinball industry, and passed his lifelong enthusiasm for the game and the business of pinball to his son Gary Stern, who founded Stern Pinball. Today pinball remains one of America's favorite pastimes.

The METALLICA pinball machine is available through authorized Stern distributors and dealers.

It was not in the cards that the undisputed kings of metal were going to Europe at all this summer. But late in the game, the organizers managed to secure a single show with the band that visited Roskilde 10 years ago, teaching the attendees a lesson in thrash metal that made traffic around the festival come to a standstill.

METALLICA played its first Roskilde show in 1986, the year the band's Copenhagen-recorded "Master Of Puppets" album was released.

METALLICA last month headlined the second edition of its Orion Music + More festival, which was held in Detroit on June 8-9. The group headlined the second day while also playing a surprise afternoon set on the first day at which it played its entire 1983 debut disc "Kill 'Em All".

The group has a scattering of festival slots lined up into September, just before its upcoming 3D movie, "Metallica Through the Never", premieres on IMAX screen in North America on September 27.

METALLICA filmed the movie last August, combining live performance footage from three shows in Vancouver with a storyline following a fictional member of their crew, played by actor Dane DeHaan, who's sent on a mission during a concert.

According to the Las Vegas Informer, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich and his fiancée, Jessica Miller, celebrated their recent engagement Monday evening (July 8) alongside a close-knit group of family members — including the bride-to-be's father and Ulrich's son — at N9NE Steakhouse at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jessica Miller, 29, who was previously in a relationship with SYSTEM OF A DOWN guitarist Daron Malakian, is a professional model, and has appeared on the cover of various international editions of Vogue magazine. She has also been a model for Gap, H&M and Chanel, among others.

Ulrich, 49, has two sons, Myles, 14, and Layne, 12, with former wife Skylar Satenstein, and a third boy, Bryce, 6, with Danish actress Connie Nielsen.

A photo of Ulrich with his fiancée, taken this past May on the red carpet at the "Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian)" premiere at the Cannes Film Festival at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, can be found at Getty Images. Video footage of them posing for photographers at the same event can be seen below.
GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal was interviewed for issue 17 of Guitar Interactive magazine. Check out the chat at
A clip from the interview, in which Thal talks with Stuart Bull about discovering the guitar and musical influences, can be seen below.

Although the current version of GUNS N' ROSES has a few more shows coming up later this month, Thal told Rolling Stone that there is music ready to go for a follow-up to 2008's "Chinese Democracy". He explained, "There's a lot of stuff, it's just a question of all of us organizing. We're still doing shows, and I think once we clear our schedule and focus more on new music, it'll happen. We just have little things on the back burner, just waiting for the right time for us to organize and make something new out of it. Hopefully we can make more music — that's what it's about."

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Thal believes that the group's fans want to hear something new from GUNS too, saying, "They want new music, and we can do it. It's not that we're done. I'm not ready for that. We need to keep making music. We have a great band that's ready to do it and can do it well."

Any chances of a new album, of course, depend on frontman Axl Rose. It took Rose 13 years to finish "Chinese Democracy", burning through hundreds of thousands of dollars, multiple producers, every last remaining original member of the group and a few replacements before he was done.

The finished product got mixed reviews and was a relative flop, moving less than one million copies in the U.S.

But Rose remains an enigma. He has not spoken about making a new album in any of his rare interviews, still insists on going onstage late, and skipped out on GUNS' induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2012.
KLAQ's Lisa Sanchez conducted an interview with Rob Zombie at on July 6 at the Albuquerque, New Mexico stop of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. You can now watch the chat below.

Rob Zombie's fifth album, "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", sold 34,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on April 23 via Zodiac Swan/T-Boy/Ume. The CD was produced by Bob Marlette, who has previously worked with everyone from BLACK SABBATH and ALICE COOPER to WILSON PHILLIPS and LYNYRD SKYNYRD.

Zombie told Artist Direct in an interview that "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor" could one day make it to the big screen as a Zombie-directed film. The rocker and filmmaker explained, "I think it could. I made it with that in mind. At least in my mind — no one else knows this — I wanted to have a storyline that runs through the record so if someday I wanted to make it into a movie musical like THE WHO's 'Tommy' or 'Quadrophenia', there was a structure to follow. I'm not really talking about what it is because I think it's sort of relevant at this point."
NOTE: Due to the fact that the "Rockline" web site was linking to the official homepage of the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE when announcing QUEENSRŸCHE's appearance on the show, a previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Tate's band was being interviewed on the program.

The Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE will guest on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" with host Bob Coburn on Wednesday, July 24 at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. Fans are encouraged to speak with QUEENSRŸCHE by calling 1-800-344-ROCK (7625). The show will be streamed on the "Rockline" web site for two weeks beginning the afternoon after the live broadcast.

"Fallout", the first official video from the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, can be seen below. The clip was filmed in Gelsenkirchen, Germany this past May during the annual Rock Hard Festival and features footage from the band's set and some behind-the-scenes shots. The song comes off the group's self-titled new album, which sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Century Media Records.

"Frequency Unknown", the latest album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, opened with around 5,500 units to debut at No. 82.

QUEENSRŸCHE's 2011 studio CD, "Dedicated To Chaos", registered a first-week tally of around 8,000 to enter the chart at No. 70. The band's 2009 effort, the epic concept album "American Soldier", premiered with 21,000 copies to debut at No. 25. This was roughly half the first-week tally registered by QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" album, which shifted 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2006 to land at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 chart.

QUEENSRŸCHE's 2003 effort, "Tribe", sold 20,000 copies in the first week while 1999's "Q2K" opened with sales of 28,000.

QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.

"Queensrÿche" marks the debut release from the lineup comprised of La Torre (vocals; ex-CRIMSON GLORY), Michael Wilton (guitar), Parker Lundgren (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums). The drums for the album were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals were laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast. The cover artwork was created by Craig Howell, who has previously worked on designs for "Star Wars", SLIPKNOT and "American Idol", to name a few.
Veteran British/American heavy metal trio RAVEN will embark on a U.S. and Canadian tour in September. Joining them on the tour will be special guests and longtime friends MPIRE OF EVIL, the band formed in 2010 by ex-VENOM members Jeff "Mantas" Dunn (guitar) and Tony "The Demolition Man" Dolan (bass, vocals). The tour will start in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on September 11 and end in Chicago, Illinois on October 1. RAVEN will then continue on as double headliners on the DIAMOND HEAD tour, which will hit the West Coast in October.

RAVEN released the "Rock Until You Drop - A Long Days Journey" two-disc DVD as a digipak in North America on July 2 via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort contains four hours and 30 minutes of concert footage from around the world, in the studio, backstage, interviews with the band, the fans, musicians and producer. It tells the story of over three decades of trailblaizing metal mayhem!

From the well-documented early days as NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) frontrunners, RAVEN's albums "Rock Until You Drop", "Wiped Out" and "All For One" virtually invented both the speed metal and power metal genres — during the trailblazing USA tours of the '80s introducing the States to "athletic rock" as well as giving opening acts like METALLICA and ANTHRAX their first tours, through the doldrums of the late '80s/early '90s when a grunge-obsessed media wrote off so many acts, RAVEN has consistently proved to be both survivors par excellence and in a genre of grim imitation shown that they are "the real thing". Where so many of their contemporaries have either faded creatively or become parodies of themselves, RAVEN have consistently pushed the envelope while retaining their unique sound and attack — both in the studio & in their true element, onstage!

In a music scene filled by clones nurtured with a cookie-cutter mentality, the unique personality, power and humor of the three band members has always shone through. The crazed vocals and bass playing of John Gallagher, the full frontal guitar assault of brother, Mark Gallagher, and the punishing polyrhythmic pounding of drummer Joe Hasselvander all combine to form a sonic battering ram unique in rock!

RAVEN recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of its seminal album "All For One" by playing select dates dubbed "All For One Forever", during which they performed many tracks from the album, including some rarely or never performed live. Originally released in 1983, "All For One" was not only the band's breakout LP, it was also a massively influential slab of classic metal. The band's groundbreaking and high-energy approach was a vital element in the development of thrash.

RAVEN's latest album, "Walk Through Fire", was released in the U.S. on March 30, 2010 (one day earlier in Europe through SPV/Steamhammer) via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Assembly Line Studios with engineer/mixer Kevin 131 (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH, DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, GARDEN OF SHADOWS).
MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson has uploaded behind-the-scenes footage from the July 9 Gigantour stop at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Check out the clip below.

This year's edition of Gigantour, the critically acclaimed package festival founded in 2005 by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine, features headliners MEGADETH, along with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEVICE, the new band fronted by DISTURBED singer David Draiman; HELLYEAH, featuring Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN), Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE), Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) and Bob "Zilla" Kakaha (DAMAGEPLAN); NEWSTED, the new band led by former METALLICA, VOIVOD and FLOTSAM AND JETSAM bassist Jason Newsted; and DEATH DIVISION, the heavy, technically aggressive and melodic band founded by bassist Jerry Montano (HELLYEAH, DANZIG, NOTHINGFACE), drummer Tim Yeung (MORBID ANGEL, DIVINE HERESY, HATE ETERNAL, NILE), vocalist/guitarist Sean De La Tour and lead guitarist Rick Di Marco.

      Gigantour billing:

Speaking to "Saturday Night Scream" in April, Dave Mustaine stated about the lineup for this year's Gigantour: "I think [fans] are gonna be pretty stoked, because each one of the other bands on there, they're new bands comprised of a person who was a major celebrity from a really large band that went on to do something new."

Gigantour made its return last year for the first time since 2008. The multi-artist bill — with metal heavyweights MOTÖRHEAD, VOLBEAT and LACUNA COIL all personally picked by Mustaine — kicked off on January 26, 2012 in Camden, New Jersey and wrapped on March 3, 2012 in Austin.
On July 8, Jo Schüftan of Horns Up Rocks! conducted an interview with ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello after Frank's Hartke-sponsored workshop at Guitar Center in New York City. You can now watch the chat below.

ANTHRAX's May 10 concert at Teatro Caupolican in Santiago, Chile was professionally filmed for a live DVD. The show consisted of a special extended set featuring tracks from the band's whole catalog.

SHADOWS FALL guitarist Jon Donais, who has been touring with ANTHRAX since Rob Caggiano's departure in January, handled the lead-guitar parts at the Santiago show.

ANTHRAX recently completed the "Metal Alliance Tour", which also featured EXODUS, HIGH ON FIRE, MUNICIPAL WASTE and HOLY GRAIL.

"Anthems", ANTHRAX's long-awaited, eight-track EP that pays tribute to the classic songs by some of the band's favorite acts from the 1970s, sold around 8,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 52 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released in North America on March 19 (MRI/Megaforce), and on March 22 in Europe (Nuclear Blast).

German power metallers RUNNING WILD will release their new album, "Resilient", on October 4 in Germany and October 7 in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV. The North American release date will be revealed soon, but the CD will definitely arrive in the U.S. this October.

Says RUNNING WILD mainman Rolf "Rock'n'Rolf" Kasparek : "I really love working at the moment and am currently getting down to business on the overdubs. I can hardly wait to present the new material to the many RUNNING WILD fans worldwide."

According to a press release, RUNNING WILD fans "can look forward to a total of twelve brand-new numbers, ten of which will feature on the regular CD, and twelve on the limited edition. The album's opener will be called 'Soldiers Of Fortune', and the title track, 'The Drift' and 'Run Riot' will be three typical RUNNING WILD numbers. The most outstanding song on the album, however, will be called 'Bloody Island', with almost ten minutes playing time one of the longest tracks in RUNNING WILD's career to date."

Adds Rolf: "As a composer, it's, of course, difficult for me to pigeonhole the new material stylistically, but friends who have heard the demo version of 'Bloody Island' claim that it would have fitted in on 'Pile Of Skulls'."

According to Rolf, "Resilient" is audibly tougher and more compact than its predecessor, "Shadowmaker", which was released in April 2012 via SPV/Steamhammer.

"'Shadowmaker' happened to come about slightly unexpectedly and spontaneously, even for me," says Rolf. "The album has brought back the fun I used to have with RUNNING WILD, and my fans will get to feel this fun when 'Resilient' comes out in October!"
In a recent interview with Jason MacNeil of ShawConnect, ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell spoke about the pressure of following up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", which was the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years.

"I think we probably felt better, more at ease in some ways," the guitarist said. "You have the opportunity every time you make one to completely fucking destroy your reputation and fucking lay a turd. But it couldn't have gone any better. We had a successful tour, people dug it, it performed well in a dwindling economy and also a dwindling music business. So we kind of reestablished the band, brought in a new member, did a lot of stuff and it worked out. Now we don't have to worry about that so now where do we go?"

Cantrell also talked about the songwriting process for "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here", which is ALICE IN CHAINS' second album with William DuVall on vocals.

"[The songs] get torn apart, they get performed, maybe it doesn't come across because the guitar doesn't sound right or the drums don't sound right," he said. "And you got to get in there and fight through all of that shit. What you come up with in the end is what you have in your hand right now and that's because everybody went through the process and we worked as a team. That means it made it through all the filters where it could have got cut off.

"There's a period spent however long collecting ideas, right?" Cantrell said. "Then at some point you start to tinker around with ideas and you get motivated to create new stuff. Whenever that happens I just try to keep myself open to the fact and not to push it until it does. So once that process begins you're in it until the end no matter what it takes to get that done and make the best record that you can."

Nick Raskulinecz, who helmed "Black Gives Way To Blue", assumed production duties once again for "Dinosaurs", a move which Cantrell says was vital in ensuring the band's satisfaction with the final product.

"Obviously he did a good job and we felt really comfortable having him in the mix," Cantrell said. "You know he's great, he's a fan of music, he cares, he gets it. He's willing to put his ego aside to make the best record for the band. I think that's a really strong and positive attribute to a producer who's not bigger than the project. He's someone you can trust too and we had to trust to be able to take our hands off the wheel occasionally and let him drive it."
Philip Anselmo, legendary frontman of PANTERA and DOWN, will take to the road for his first-ever solo tour, dubbed "Technicians Of Distortion", which will kick off July 31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On this trek, Anselmo will be joined by his backup band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL), drummer José Manuel Gonzales (WARBEAST) and bassist Steve Taylor.

A three-minute promotional clip for the tour can be seen below.

Anselmo will release his career-first solo album, "Walk Through Exits Only", on July 16 via his own Housecore Records (MRI/Megaforce). "Walk Through Exits Only" will be available digitally, on CD and on vinyl.

Produced by Anselmo and Michael Thompson, and recorded over the past couple of years at Philip's New Orleans studio, Nodferatu's Lair, with his band THE ILLEGALS — guitarist Marzi Montazeri (ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL) and drummer José Manuel Gonzales (WARBEAST) — "Walk Through Exits Only" is abrasive, aggressive, anthemic and 100% Anselmo. The album's eight songs are as unstrained as it gets, from "Battalion Of Zero" to "Usurper's Bastard Rant", to the album's title track that goes against the grain and right through the exits. Brash, brutal guitars cut through punishing percussion as Anselmo screams with uncompromising ferocity and uncontainable fire.

"Walk Through Exits Only" track listing:

      01. Music Media Is My Whore
      02. Battalion Of Zero
      03. Betrayed
      04. Usurper Bastard's Rant
      05. Walk Through Exits Only
      06. Bedroom Destroyer
      07. Bedridden
      08. Irrelevant Walls And Computer Screens

The official video for the song "Bedridden" can now be seen below.

"It wasn't about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record," Anselmo explained about the project. "It's an angry album that only I could do. I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I'm screaming about. On this album, there isn't any wordplay, there isn't any hidden message, it's all right there in front of you."

The genesis of "Walk Through Exits Only" proved both comfortable and natural for its architect. In fact, everything began to slowly come together in the frontman's New Orleans home back in 2010.

"It started right there in the fucking black bedroom where I haunt," he smiles. "When I get an itch, I've got to scratch it. The sole idea at the beginning was to be unorthodox. It wasn't about doing a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record. I've always believed there are different elements of groove. It's definitely not a cemented science. It's an angry album that only I could do. I don't see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I'm screaming about. I tried to portray it as personally as I possibly could."

Gonzales puts it best. "I think it's going to put the rock 'n' roll back in extreme music," he says. "That combination is very different. For as extreme as it is, it's controlled chaos."

"It's meant to be very unpredictable," Anselmo affirms. "When I hear enough of the same thing, I want to rebel. That was a key factor. Right when you think you've got it pegged, it goes in a different direction. That's what keeps things interesting."

In order to harness that unpredictability and realize his vision, he enlisted the talents of longtime friend Houston-based shredder Montazeri. Filling the seat behind the kit is Gonzales, who entered the fold at the tender age of 19. Back at Anselmo's studio Nodferatu's Lair, they recorded in spurts between DOWN's own rigorous recording and touring schedule. In the process of those intense sessions alongside engineer Stephen "The Big Fella" Berrigan, the record was born.

"There's nobody like Philip," says Montazeri. "For years, I've always wanted to do something completely original and meaningful with him. I'm just trying to bring something pure to this. Nothing gets in the way of this band's purity. When all of us get together, it's automatic. If I have an idea, Philip always welcomes it. We share a love for extreme music, and I feel like we've got an unbreakable bond."

Gonzales agrees, "These guys pushed me to limits I didn't even know I could be pushed to. We've been able to create something really special together."

The world's proper introduction to PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS came on the "War Of The Gargantuas" split with WARBEAST at the top of 2013. The two songs included on the split — "Conflict" and "Family, Friends, and Associates" — were only a separate and small taste of what was come to come on the full-length though.

In many ways, "Walk Through Exits Only" embodies the same underground spirit and ethos that Anselmo has proudly possessed for his whole life. Since his career began, he consistently shined light on what was happening beneath the typical "surface" of music, whether by inviting MORBID ANGEL, EYEHATEGOD, CROWBAR, or NEUROSIS onto a PANTERA tour or donning a DARKTHRONE or MAYHEM t-shirt on television or in a major publication. He's gone against the grain, past the tides, and right through the exits. Now, that sentiment pipes through loud and clear on the record's viciously vital title track.

"It does create an unorthodox approach to things," Anselmo continues. "The hook is a powerful line. Why make music the 'right' way? There really aren't any fucking rules. You've got to simply take what’s there and make it your own."

The opener "Music Media Is My Whore" lays all speculation to rest with its focused pummeling. About the title, he laughs, "I've gotten my share of fucking licks from the media over the years. I figured I'd give them one back. Lyrically, there was always something driving me though. I couldn't put my finger on it for the longest time, but it's very reality-based. I didn't mince any words."

"The message comes across in a crazy way," adds Montazeri. "That goes for the entire record though. There's no similarity between this and any other band. It breaks from tradition."

Not only does "Walk Through Exits Only" break from tradition, it lays the groundwork for a new road.

"Fuck another chapter," concludes Anselmo. "This is a whole new book. Some might call it ambitious. I say it's natural. I can do anything I want with this, and I will. I want people to take that unpredictability with them. If you're in a younger band, I want you to realize you don't have to play by the fucking rules. I want everyone to see that there's a lot more to the story than they'd ever realized when it comes to me. You can't and won't be able to tell what comes next from the kid. You can't pin me down unless it's in my own fucking corner which will be painted black and say, 'Reserved for Philip H. Anselmo.' You're very welcome to do that."

The official listening and release party for "Walk Through Exits Only" will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 p.m. at Duff's Brooklyn in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

      The address is:

      Duff's Brooklyn
      168 Marcy Avenue (between S 5th & Broadway)

San Francisco Bay Area metallers DEATH ANGEL have completed mastering the follow-up to 2010's "Relentless Retribution" for an October release via Nuclear Blast Records. The band's seventh CD was tracked at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, AUGUST BURNS RED, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, ALL THAT REMAINS, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER) and DEATH ANGEL guitarist Rob Cavestany handling production duties. The cover artwork is being created by Brent Elliot White (JOB FOR A COWBOY, CARNIFEX, WHITECHAPEL), who also worked on "Relentless Retribution".

Says the band: "Now the record is DONE done! Final masters approved! Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York did a brutally beautiful job, as he did with 'Relentless Retribution'. Completely and absolutely satisfied. So excited for you to hear it."

Cavestany previously stated about DEATH ANGEL's upcoming album: "'Relentless' turned out the way we wanted, so we we're taking it to the next level with the same team… We had a blast doing the last record [at AudioHammer] and now we know each other better and how well we work together.

"It was our idea all along to go directly into the studio following the end of [DEATH ANGEL's most recent] tour, without taking time off.

"We always take a break after an album's touring cycle ends. You basically have to after spending so much time on the road, traveling and performing constantly. But not this time! This tour [was] the longest one we've ever done and that live energy is in our new songs! The glory and the heartache, it's all there.

"That said, this is some of the heaviest, fastest, most powerful material we've ever created! There's something really dark in it too... music is and always will be our outlet to vent and release the built up pressure that life deals. In the world today, we need it more than ever!!!"

"Relentless Retribution" sold 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 10 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. The band's previous album, "Killing Season", opened with around 2,300 units back in March 2008. This number was in line with the performance of its predecessor, "The Art of Dying", which registered a first-week sales tally of around 2,100 back in May 2004.

"Relentless Retribution" was released in the U.S. on September 14, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel (pictured below) of San Francisco Bay Area metallers MACHINE HEAD have defended themselves against accusations that they use fake amps as a part of their stage show, insisting that it's something that's been a part of rock shows for decades.

Responding to an article that was posted on the web site of the El Paso, Texas radio station KLAQ 95.5 FM that attempted to call out MACHINE HEAD for using dummy cabs on stage, the band released the following statement:

"While it seems absurd that El Paso, Texas-based radio station 95.5 FM KLAQ would choose to go through the effort to post this on their website, we guess in-light of the big hub-bub about BLACK VEIL BRIDES getting 'called out' by the drummer for THE BRONX for having 'fake cabs' on the Warped tour earlier this month, some 'brain donor' over at the station has decided to drop the 'newsflash of the century' and 'call out' MACHINE HEAD for having 'fake amps' too! A practice that for over 40 years now has been common-place in rock 'n roll going back to the days of VAN HALEN and AC/DC.

"For the record, MACHINE HEAD 'back' ANY band that uses dummy cabs in hopes of giving their fans a better, more impressive show. That includes the BLACK VEIL BRIDES, who like many young musicians (and MACHINE HEAD) use direct-to-PA amp modeling gear like Fractals and Kempers. At least BLACK VEIL BRIDES are playing their instruments, and not waving their hands along to a fucking laptop!!

"MACHINE HEAD have 2 cabinet set-carts in the shape of our diamond logo, we use half of the 4 cabs for live sound, the ones labeled 'live' in the 'smoking gun photos' are actually that, a real LIVE cabinet, that's plugged in (as you can see in the photo), that make sound, have real speakers, plug into a 'real amp,' and has a mic in front of it that sends our face-melting guitar tones out to the crowd via the PA. The ones that our guitar techs labeled (for some reason, in bright green flourescent gaff tape) 'dummy' are actually real cabs too, with real speakers and everything, but we only have so many amps to power them, and really who gives a shit, because ALL the cabs are REAL!!

"Quick history lesson for grizzled 24-year-old heavy metal veteran Lisa Sanchez: Since the dawn of heavy music, bands have used dummy cabinets as part of an often-impressive looking stage design. When SLAYER played the Mayhem Festival last year and had 2 giant upside-down crosses made out of Marshall cabinets, that lit on fire, guess what? They weren't all plugged in!

"When Rob Halford of JUDAS PRIEST rides his Harley through a swinging gate of Marshall stacks, guess what? Those are 'dummies' too. In fact, the only 'dummy' here is the one taking pictures, taking liberties, while standing on our stage, as our uninvited guest, and writing up the 'controversial scoop,' and then tweeting and Facebooking about it.

"How about calling out someone for something that really matters instead of bands who are only helping people escape for a little while?

"What exactly are you trying to do here?

"Here's what, you're attempting to create a controversy to get hits on your website, and this response should do just that. In fact, we're already giving you and your radio station website too much traffic via this response.

"Hope you enjoy the free press.

      "You're welcome!"
Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA have completed recording their new album for a tentative October release via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was tracked over a 40-day period at producer Ross Robinson's (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) studio in Venice, California and will be mixed and mastered by co-producer Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the "Nation" (2001), "Revolusongs" (2002) and "Roorback" (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.

The follow-up to 2011's "Kairos" will contain nine songs, including "The Age Of The Atheist", "Tsunami", "The Vatican" and "Trauma Of War", and two bonus tracks (covers of DEATH's "Zombie Ritual" and a track from the Brazilian group CHICO SCIENCE E NAÇÃO ZUMBI). The CD will also feature a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo.

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser recently stated about the upcoming CD: "I think this album is one of the heaviest albums we ever did. We want to bring the SEPULTURA live attitude to the studio and with Ross we achieved that more than any other album, it sounds very alive, the performances are at their best. But we have one specific song that is more dramatic, clean but heavy and dark. The song is called 'Grief', which had the nickname 'Balada'. It is a song that starts with clean guitars in a way that we never attempted before, I think it was our biggest challenge on this album, regarding all the instruments and it came out amazing."

Regarding the contributions of SEPULTURA's new drummer, Eloy Casagrande, to the new album recording sessions, Kisser said: "Eloy is one of the great drummers of the world. It's amazing to see him playing with such energy and power. He brought a new level of energy and possibilities to our music. I wrote crazy riffs on the guitar that was no problem for him to work something even crazier on drums. Heavy parts with lots of double bass and fast drum fills. We wrote one of the best SEPULTURA albums together. You all will hear this monster behind the drumsticks. He killed on the recording sessions and it will be awesome to perform these songs live on stage."

SEPULTURA's upcoming CD will mark the first time the band will have recorded an album outside Brazil since "Against".

The reunion between SEPULTURA and Robinson was first suggested by Monte Conner, the former Roadrunner Records A&R chief who is now the head of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a U.S. partnership with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.

Robinson produced SEPULTURA's classic "Roots" album in 1995. Released in February 1996 by Roadrunner, it was the band's last studio album to feature founding member and vocalist Max Cavalera.

"Roots" sold more than 2 million copies worldwide and was certified gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA) for sales in excess of 500,000 units.

SEPULTURA has spent most of the past two years on tour in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, "Kairos", which hit stores in July 2011.
Swedish occult rockers GHOST, who are fronted by Papa Emeritus II, have made their branded bikini for the ladies available for pre-order via their official merchandise store.

A photo of the set, which is priced at $39.99, can be seen below.

GHOST made headlines in April when it announced it had begun selling dildos and butt plugs via the band's webstore.

GHOST's sophomore album, "Infestissumam", sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".

GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."

Hailing from Linköping, Sweden, GHOST formed in in 2008. They released their heralded debut album, "Opus Eponymous", in 2010. In 2011, GHOST performed at the annual Download festival in the United Kingdom. The band's fanbase began to swell and not long after added some of hard rock's finest to this group. Additionally that year, GHOST took part in the "Defenders Of Faith III" tour with TRIVIUM, IN FLAMES and RISE TO REMAIN. In early 2012, they embarked on their first tour of the United States and later that year shared the stage with MASTODON and OPETH on their "Heritage Hunter Tour" in North America. That summer the band was invited by METALLICA's James Hetfield to perform on the main stage of METALLICA's first annual Orion Music + More festival.
Spike Cassidy (guitar) of hardcore/metal crossover pioneers D.R.I. (DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES) is reportedly suffering from tendinitis, forcing the cancelation of the band's previously announced European tour.

A statement from D.R.I.'s European booking agency, M.A.D. Tourbooking, reads as follows: "We are really sorry that we have to tell you that another tour has been canceled. The guitar player of D.R.I. has huge problems with his finger, he can't bend it anymore, so he's unable to play guitar. Seems like it's from an injury moth ago. We wish him all the best and hope that he gets well soon!"

Cassidy underwent emergency surgery in September 2012 for a severe blockage caused by the reversal surgery he had just three weeks earlier.

In 2004, Cassidy was diagnosed with colon cancer. He underwent surgery (a one-foot section of large intestine was removed through an eight-inch incision in his stomach on March 27, 2006), radiation and chemotherapy and was previously said to be winning the battle against the disease.

D.R.I.'s classic 1987 album "Crossover" was reissued in April 2010 via Beer City Records. Available on LP, CD and as a digital download, the LP was remastered by Bill Metoyer, who was the engineer for the original recordings. The CD and digital version of the reissue include the original 13 songs plus 11 bonus tracks.

For the past 31 years, D.R.I. has been the epitome of the aggressive, hardcore-punk thrash sound that we've all become accustomed to hearing. Throughout this time, they've been one of the few genuine underground bands to remain true to their pure punk roots. Still actively touring and recording, the only thing that may have changed is that they're a little older now, but time hasn't gotten the best of the DIRTY ROTTEN IMBECILES. They're still thrashing just as hard, and just as loud as ever, continuing to overload our senses with the sound that is, and will always remain, uniquely D.R.I.
The North American premiere of the "Imaginaerum" film — based on album of the same name from Finnish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH — is scheduled for August 4 at the Fantasia international film festival at Imperial Theatre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

For more information, go to FantasiaFestival.com.

The "Imaginaerum" film was released theatrically in Finland on November 23, 2012.

The movie had its premiere on November 10, 2012 at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, where the audience was treated to both a full-scale NIGHTWISH concert and the first-ever public screening of the movie.

The "Imaginaerum" screening at Hartwall Arena waspreceded by a show by the musicians in NIGHTWISH themselves in what was their final concert in Finland last year.

The official soundtrack of the movie, "Imaginaerum By Nightwish: The Score", was released on the day before the premiere — Friday, November 9. The album features 13 grandiose, unreleased re-interpretations of "Imaginaerum" tracks by Petri Alanko.

Eagerly anticipated around the world, "Imaginaerum" creates a musical fantasy world in the vein of David Lynch, Neil Gaiman, and Cirque du Soleil. The movie is an innovative mixture of story-telling and music, an extraordinary tale of the power of imagination… and what's ultimately important in life.

Shot and post-produced in Canada, the movie was directed by Stobe Harju and produced by Solar Films, and features appearances by all NIGHTWISH members. The screenplay is based on a wild vision that Tuomas Holopainen, the mastermind of the band, devised after the album "Dark Passion Play" came out in 2007.

"Imaginaerum" is one of the projects which received grants from the Finnish government institution called the Finnish Film Foundation. The movie, directed by Stobe Harju, about an old man on his deathbed who glimpses a childhood dream in which he refuses to grow old, and fights aging with his imagination, reportedly got $575,000 toward its $3.7 million budget.

During a September 2011 interview with Petri Silas of Finland's Soundi magazine, NIGHTWISH mainman/keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen explained that all the filming for the "Imaginaerum" movie was done in Canada with mostly Canadian actors/actresses. Post-production took place in Canada and Finland. He aso revealed the names of the actors who have two of the main roles in the film: Marianne Farley and Quinn Lord.

Speaking to Loudwire, Holopainen stated about the plot of the "Imaginaerum" film, "Basically it's about this old guy who used to be a composer and he's really sick; he's lying on his death bed in a hospital and he's going through his life, through his dreams — that's the basic storyline. It's all about praising life and life's beauty, imagination and all the strife and the bad stuff we have to face.

"[The storyline] came from the director; I just had the twelve ideas, the twelve visions. He basically wrote the script and storyline around those originally visions and the only one we had to leave out was the 'Ghost River' part, because we didn't have the finance to realize that vision."

Asked if the band appears in the film at all, Tuomas said, "A little bit, we are seen in two different scenes as a band, playing in the background. That's something that I really emphasized to the director, 'Please don't put the band into the movie,' because we want to do a believable story and we have no idea how to act. We are not actors so if your give us some lines and we tried to act, it would look goofy. He insisted to put us into the movie because it's our brainchild, so we're just playing in there as a band; it's a good compromise."

      "Imaginaerum" film cast:

      * Francis X. McCarthy
      * Quinn Lord
      * Marianne Farley
      * Joanna Noyes

Dutch female-fronted symphonic metallers EPICA have released the following message:

"Our show at Graspop [Metal Meeting in Dessel, Delgium] on the 30th of June marked the end of the 'Requiem For The Indifferent' touring cycle.

"We would like to thank all our loyal fans who have, once again, carried EPICA to the next level.

"Our world tour promoting 'Requiem For The Indifferent' has given us a ton of wonderful new memories. We played a lot of new places like Australia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Belarus and Dubai and welcomed new fans at every one of the 100+ shows of this world tour. A new milestone for us was reached during 'Retrospect', the celebration of our 10th anniversary! We will never forget being on stage with this huge orchestra and choir in front of the 4500 fans from all over the world.

"As you know, we will take a step back from playing live shows for the upcoming months since [EPICA singer] Simone [Simons] and [her boyfriend] Oliver and [EPICA keyboardist] Coen [Janssen] and [his wife] Linda are expecting children.

"During this period, we will be finalizing our live CD, Blu-ray/DVD 'Retrospect', which will be released in the autumn of this year. Besides that, we are in the pre-production phase of the sixth EPICA studio album which we will start to record at the end of this summer and which will be released in spring 2014.

"We can't wait to share the 'Retrospect' show and our new music with you all and we hope to see you on the road in 2014!!"

EPICA's fifth full-length album, "Requiem For The Indifferent", sold 4,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 104 on The Billboard 200 chart.

NIGHTINGALE — the Swedish band featuring acclaimed musician/producer
Dan Swanö and his brother Dag — entered the studio this past Monday (July 8) to begin recording its first album in seven years. The group states: "It's gonna be worth the wait "

      * Dan Swanö (WITHERSCAPE, EDGE OF SANITY) - Vocals, Guitar
      * Dag Swanö (DAG SWANÖ'S ÄVENTYR) - Guitar, Vocals, Keyboards
      * Erik Oskarsson (DAG SWANÖ'S ÄVENTYR) - Bass, Backing Vocals
      * Tom Björn (MEMORY GARDEN) - Drums

NIGHTINGALE's sixth album, "White Darkness", was released in June 2007 via Black Mark. The CD was recorded at a big theater, with many of the songs having been tracked as live as can be in the studio, giving them that little extra spark of life often missing in modern productions.

The term "White Darkness" is an expression that lead singer and lyricist Dan Swanö used to describe the state of mind he was in during the aftermath of his divorce. Most of his lyrics on this album are diaries from months of soul searching. During this dark period Dan did not write much music, so his older brother Dag Swanö (formerly known as Tom Nouga) stepped in, armed to his teeth with killer songs from the past and the present.

Says SIRENIA mastermind Morten Veland: "We would like to thank all our loyal fans for their support. We're very happy to see that you enjoy our new album as much as we do. Thanks for keeping the music alive. See you on tour!"

"Perils Of The Deep Blue" was released on June 28 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was produced by Morten Veland, while the mixing and mastering was handled by Endre Kirkesola at Dub Studios in Oslo.
