Subject: [CommunityMedicine of India] mineral water bottle....are they dangerous

      Dear Friends,
I was going through my pediatric journal when I came
      across
this article and thought it was worth sharing with all
      of you since we
all are probably reusing the mineral water bottle.
It all happened in DUBAI, when a 12 year old girl died

after a long usage (16 months )of SAFA mineral water
      bottle , as she
used to carry same fancy bottle to her school daily.
In a nutshell, the Plastic (called Polyethylene
terephthalate or PET)used in these bottles contain a
      carcinogenic
element (sometimes called diethylhydroxylamin e or
      DEHA).These bottels
are safe for one time use only .Repeated washing &
rinsing espicially with hot water can cause the
plastic molecule to break down & cancer
causing chemical agents are released in the water you
      are drinking .
HOW TO AVOID: Cheak on the bottom of the bottle there
will be a triangle sign with a number written . If the
number is higher then or equal to FIVE it can be
safely used .But numbers below five are unsafe.
Most of the mineral water have number one
PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO AS MANY AS POSSIABLE .

      and safe life.
