      As soon as we receive  the complete set of documents we will process them for Admission. Once you receive the Provisional Admission letter he/she has to start preparing another set of documents which are mandatory to apply for the Netherlands Fellowship Programme. (We will update the nominees on the NFP documents once they receive an Admission letter)

      As the international Institute for urban management of the Erasmus University Rotterdam, IHS operates on a global scale and utilizes its experience in applied knowledge on housing and urban development to help individuals, organizations and cities to find practical solutions to problem facing their cities.
      IHS offers specialized post graduate education, training, advisory services and applied research in the fields of urban management, housing and urban environment with the mission to develop human and institutional capacities to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life in cities.

        This is to inform you about 12- Months - Masters of Science in Urban Management and Development offered by IHS.

      IHS offers a 12 month MSc programme, which can be followed full-time and part-time. The master programme provides a unique opportunity for professionals and bachelor graduates to invest in their future. It will enable you to become an innovative urban manager, a leader who analyses and develops cities based on a thorough understanding of urban theory and practice.
      * 1 year full time or 3 years part time
      * Linking theory to practice
      * English taught programme
      * Academic award: Master of Science> NVAO Accredited

      A step in your career
      The courses will enable participants to advance their career opportunities. Our alumni include ministers, mayors, successful businessmen and renowned NGO specialists. It provides entrance into international networks of urban professionals, institutes and capacity building initiatives. Participants will benefit from the extensive network of IHS, including an alumni association with over 7,000 members and contacts with donor agencies and training centres. IHS is engaged in over 100 urban programmes and projects at any point in time, enabling a direct link between theory and practice. IHS lecturers have worked all over the world thus creating a possibility to discuss and initiate programmes and projects in your country and your cities.
      Programme
      The intensive course is is divided in core modules and intermediary periods leading to 6 different specialisations that provide ample choices for you to go in-depth in your field of study.
      * Core period: general lectures on urban issues (October - March)
      * Specialisation period: (March - June)
      1. Managing and Financing Urban Infrastructure (MFUI)
      2. Urban Housing and Livelihoods (UHL)
      3. Urban Environmental Management and Climate Change (UECC)
      4. Integrated Planning and Strategies (IPS)
      5. Urban Land Development (ULD)
      6. Urban Competitiveness and Resilience (UCR)
      * Research & Thesis (July - September)
       
      Participants get engaged in group and individual exercises, are requested to write papers and essays, make presentations that are assessed throughout the course. They also prepare their research through a continuous work on research methods and techniques.

       Accreditation
      The Dutch Ministry of Education accredits the course as an academic master programme based on assessment by Quality Assurance of Netherlands Universities (QANU). The stringent quality criteria applied by the Dutch Government are based on European standards for higher education. NVAO, see report.

      Admission
      Admission Requirements
      In order to participate in one of the Master programmes or a short course, you are required:
      * To have at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or similar institute in a field related to the chosen course.
      * To show evidence of a sufficient oral and written command of the English language. If English is not your mother tongue, an English language test is required.
      * At least 3 years work or academic experience.
      * Working experience in relevant fields is preferred.
      * To have the ability to interact and work with people from very diverse cultures and backgrounds.
       
      Fellowship Options: 
       
      Fellowship from the Dutch Government (Netherlands Fellowship Programme - NFP) is available for this course.
