- Mar 2, 2009After all is done, I find myself having mixed emotions about Hustle.
On the plus side, the return of Adrian Lester is a great and wonderful
thing. Robert Glenister and Robert Vaughn were wonderful as always.
Even Rob Jarvis was on the mark. I also liked that the writers took
some interesting turns here. "Return of the Prodigal" brought the new
crew together with Albert pooling the strings from behind bars.
"Politics" was (IIRC) the only time where the crew let the mark (in
this case, a MP) have the opportunity to do the right thing. I also
liked that they did not immediately have Mickey and Emma hook up.
These moves keep a show fresh.
However, not everything worked for me. For one thing, there was too
little Albert. I am not sure if they cut back on Robert Vaughn's work
load because of his age/condition, but he was absent for far too long
in this series. Also, while I eventually liked the character of Emma,
I find her brother Sean to be an irritant, even with his great memory
skills. We need Sean to be less of a pain the next go-around.
In the end, I guess problematic Hustle is better than no Hustle at all
(which was where I thought we were a few months ago). If they can get
the bugs fixed, though, we will be in good shape.
Later,
Will
