Group Description

A virtual gathering place for residents of the Hunting Ridge community of Baltimore City.

This group is not run by or sanctioned by the Hunting Ridge Community Assembly. YOU are responsible for your own words.

The 1923 postcard advertisement to the right was the promotional piece mailed by the developer of Hunting Ridge. The reverse reads:

"Hunting Ridge is on Edmondson Avenue opposite of Ten Hills, twenty-three minutes by the No. 14 trolley from the downtown business section of the city.

It is a suburb of beautiful trees, with high elevation and restrictions, making it an excellent place particularly for those who have children.

Hunting Ridge will have one of Baltimore's new city schools. Although it has annex tax rate, all city improvements are provided for Hunting Ridge Homes.

A development of the same high standard"

The reference of "annex tax rate" refers to the annexation in 1918 by Baltimore County. It annexed a large section of its eastern border to Baltimore City. This was due to County residents wanting to take advantage of City utilities and services. Before 1918, Catonsville extended east on Frederick Road to approximately Augusta Avenue. Hunting Ridge was part of the annexed land. Ironically, if you read Morris' promotional piece for Ten Hills in 1910, it boast the convenience of Downtown while still paying lower Baltimore County taxes!
