Group Description

The Human-Animal Studies listserv was launched in October, 2003 by the Animals and Society Institute (http://www.animalsandsociety.org), and is now the largest listserv in the world devoted to human-animal studies. In addition to joining this discussion group we welcome you to explore and use the resources on the ASI website. The ASI is the leading organization in the field of Human-Animal Studies, working with scholars and other interested parties to develop programs, conferences and publications to expand the availability of courses and resources in institutions of higher learning. Our website offers a full range of materials for those who are interested in this field.

New Members to our discussion group are welcome. To join the group, briefly state your interest in the field of human-animal studies when sending your subscribe email. If you fail to submit this information, you may be denied membership. (This step minimizes the inappropriate posting of commercial announcements and offensive material.)

The listserv is dedicated to the scholarly discussion of anything pertaining to the multi-disciplinary field of Human-Animal Studies. Sponsored by the Animals and Society Institute, the list is open to any scholar (faculty, graduate or undergraduate student or unaffiliated writer or researcher) or practitioner with an interest in expanding the field of Human-Animal Studies, Anthrozoology, Animal Studies, or Critical Animal Studies.

News, conference announcements, calls for papers, discussion of research and theory, support and resources for teaching or research, and other related topics are encouraged. We welcome contributions from anthropologists, sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, literary scholars, historians, biologists, ethologists, and other academics and practitioners who are interested in furthering this new field.

Thank you!
