Just as you presumed, simply a fake.

      Hello everyone,

I've recently been approached over the internet by an "Ismail Ahmet" (his reply-to says "Ismail Poyraz") who claims to be from Turkey, but is emailing in from a Yahoo Germany address. He's looking to sell a ~27 page New Testament-themed manuscript (Eastern Syriac in golden letters written on leather) and I'm a bit suspicious.

It could be a language-barrier problem, but he does not seem too keen on giving the piece's provenance, and when that happens its always a red flag. I worry that the item could be something that was looted from another collection or simply a fake. One can never know.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take a look at the scans he sent me so I might have the opinions of others?

      They can be found at:

      Peace & Thanks,
