Interest in solar has been short term in the past. Once people see
that solar can be expensive and requires some thought they move
on to other topics. Even knowing that we can develop inexpensive
solar hot water heaters doesn't excite people unless it saves money
NOW. I think our society has lost its ability to visualize and make
positive change. Here i sit with a ten year old solar hot water
heater that has never had any maintenance. It was a
bargain ten years ago and still is today. This should be news.
It can do more for the energy crisis than drilling for oil in
all our natural areas. Everyone wins and the solution is long
term. This isn't even controversial or difficult. I keep
asking myself what is the problem? Why do we keep burning
coal and oil to heat water? The only answer i can come up
with is the utility/oil interests funding conservative politics,
and a society that is disconnected from important issues.
