Action Needed: CALL Senator Troy Fraser at (512) 463-0124 TODAY and urge him in the strongest possible terms to repeal "Section M" so that congregations and their members can be allowed to buy green power.

"Section M" is an obscure provision in the Public Utility Code that would block future renewable energy development in Texas. Under Section M, every time congregations and other retail electric customers sign up for "green power" programs like Austin GreenChoice, Green Mountain, etc., they would be unwittingly canceling future renewable energy projects like new wind and solar installations.

      How Can This Be True?

This deceptive concept was enacted with Senator Fraser's awareness in 2005 but has not yet been implemented by the Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC).  Texas Impact has worked with many other groups this session to cancel Section M so that congregations and other retail electric consumers can keep their right to "buy green"-but Senator Fraser today torpedoed that effort, making it nearly certain that the deceptive Section M will be implemented very soon and spelling the end of consumers' opportunity to support clean, safe, renewable power here in our state.

Senator Fraser has it within his power to fix this problem-and he can still do so on FRIDAY, MAY 25. The House of Representatives has already voted overwhelmingly to fix Section M, but Senator Fraser is blocking the Senate from being allowed to vote.

      • If you agree that Texas should lead the nation in building a robust renewable energy industry
      • If you agree that Texas needs a shift to clean power to help clear our air and keep our kids healthy
      • If you agree that "Number One in Global Warming Pollution" is not a title Texas should keep winning

then calling on Senator Fraser to repeal Section M is 90 seconds of citizen leadership you can't afford to skip. And remember: it has to happen on Friday, May 25, because time is almost up.
