Action Alert & HCPA meeting Sunday
- Below is an action opportunity for energy efficiency and a reminder of the global warming meeting.
Houston Climate Protection Alliance Meeting will be Sunday, May 6, 2:30pm. We'll hear reports on the first Low Carbon Diet Class, the Global Warming Cafe by Nancy Benthien, and on action opportunities in the Texas Legislature by Nan Hildreth. Location, First Unitarian Universalist Church, 5200 Fannin at Southmore in the Museum District in a second floor classroom.
These upcoming two weeks will be our last chance for legislative action according to Bee Moorehead of Texas Impact. The Omnibus Energy Efficiency Bill, HB 3639, has gotten out of committee and is awaiting scheduling for a floor vote by the Calendars' Committee. The bill is competing with a zillion other bills for a place on the calendar. If it isn't scheduled for a vote this week, it's bad news. Bills with a lot of co-sponsors are more likely to be scheduled. Please check if your Texas state representative has co-authored the bill. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=80R&Bill=HB3693 If he has, thank him and ask him to call the Calendars Committee to ask that the vote be scheduled. If he has not co-authored, ask him to co-author the bill.
To look up your Texas State Representative, www.capitol.state.tx.us Houston area members of the Calendars Committee are Beverly Wooley (chair), Larry Taylor, Sylvester Turner, and Corbin Van Arsdale.
