Bicycling & Peak Oil - Sun 2pm
- Bicycling - Part of the Solution to Rising Energy Prices
Experts expect ever rising energy prices caused by declining oil
production. Global oil production will peak soon, if it hasn't
already, and then decline, they say. Is peak oil a crisis or an
opportunity? Can we thrive by switching to more energy techniques,
for example, bicycle commuting?
Peter Wang will tell how and why he commutes by bicycle in a talk to
Houston Peak Oil Progressives on Sunday, December 11 at West Gray
Cafe, 415 West Gray. "Bicycling is not just sport but transport"
says Peter Wang.
Peter is a Professional Geoscientist and volunteers for Bike Houston
www.bikehouston.org. He commutes 25 miles to work from his suburban
home in Copperfield. He regularly bicycles the entire distance
because it makes him feel healthier. He sometimes rides ten miles
to the bus Park and Ride and folds his bike to take it onto the
bus. When bicycling in traffic, he recommends folks use a rear view
mirror on their helmet, wear florescent, reflective clothing and, for
night riding, hang on their bike, front and rear, bright blinking
lights. To help folks learn to ride in traffic, he recently
earned his bicycling instructor certification. Peter attends local
government road planning meetings to advocate for
bicyclists. Contact Peter at pwang01@... For information
