Tell PUC you want them to adopt the non-wind renewable portfolio standard
- The Public Utilities Commission is accepting comments on a non-wind renewable portfolio standard (RPS) that would greatly increase the electricity generated from solar (as well as geothermal and other renewables). The non-wind RPS was passed into law by the Texas Legislature in 2005, but has yet to be enforced. The RPS is not a subsidy. It does not provide payments or tax breaks to electricity producers. It simply requires all private, investor owned utilities (i.e. TXU or Reliant) to purchase a small portion of the electricity that they sell from solar or other non-wind renewable energy producers.NTREG has posted a call for action on their website as has Solar Austin , who also posted the "virtual event" below that allows you to submit a basic letter electronically (it's easy...even I did it). Or, you may write a letter of your own and send it to Kaiba White, cc'd above, who will print and deliver it in paper copy to the PUC. THE DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS IS FRIDAY.Encouraging the PUC to adopt the non-wind RPS has been recognized as a constructive and attainable goal to provide statewide support for solar development. Please let them know you support this action.Warm regards,LucyLucy StolzenburgTXSES Interim Executive Director512-751-1873
