- This is a pretty cool project. I got to go to the race last year for the first time.

Having trouble viewing this email? Click here Dear Friend of the Texas Solar Energy Society,The roar you will hear on July 12 will issue from the engines of the 2012 Solar Car Challenge! There is no question that the sun will be out to power the cars created by 31teams of high school students, but the behind the scenes financial backbone of the event could use your help.
The Lightner-Sams Foundation has offered to match donations up to a total of $5,000. This would put the solar car education program back on track (yes, a hopeless pun). The weak economy has reduced or eliminated donations from many of the usual sponsors.
At the same time, student participation in the program has increased. There are 85 on-going high school solar car projects in 23 states, 400 schools are "wait-listed" to participate and those 31 teams will be at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth July 12-19 .Please consider making a donation by clicking here!
The Solar Car Challenge motivates high school students in science, engineering, and alternative energy. Since its inception, mentors and teachers have worked with more than 20,000 students, showing them the relevancy of solar power!
Thank you for your ongoing support of solar education.
Warm regards,Lucy Stolzenburg
Texas Solar Energy SocietyTechnology & Learning Magazine named the Solar Car Challenge one of America's Top 10 Most Innovative Education Programs!
