For those that participated a year or so ago in supporting the solar clinic
in Myanmar , led by Walt Ratterman, you may be interested in the following
news item regarding a posthumous award given to him.

      SolarWorld Einstein Award

EU PVSEC: SolarWorld presents two further Einstein 2010
      awards in Valencia

      PV Tech - www.pv-tech.org

      SolarWorld<http://www.pv-tech.org/images/uploads/eupvsec09/eu_pvsec2010/eins
tein.jpg> SolarWorld has presented the Junior Einstein Award to Fraunhofer
junior scientist Dr. Christian Reimann and awarded an Honorary Einstein
award to the late Walt Ratterman at the 25th EU PVSEC event in Valencia ,
Spain . These awards are thus added to the overall Einstein award dedicated
to Nobel Peace Prize laureate and micro-finance pioneer Muhammad Yunus,
      which was announced by PV-Tech
      <http://www.pv-tech.org/news/_a/eu_pvsec_solarworld_einstein_award_2010_goes
      _to_nobel_peace_prize_laureate_/> back in August.

The Einstein award is being presented in recognition of
Yunus' micro-loans for the poor, created through Grameen Bank, of which he
is founder, which have made possible the installation of more than 400,000
small solar power systems, securing energy supplies for people in rural
regions of Bangladesh who live far from the national utility grid.

Reimann, of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems
and Building Element Technology (IISB) in Erlangen , won the Junior award is
recognition of his thesis on the formation of silicon crystals and the
prevention of impurities in silicon melt. This process can increase the
degree of efficiency of solar cells and thus reduce the costs for solar
power. The process developed by Reimann has been patented in the meantime.

For his solar commitment, SolarWorld posthumously bestowed
the Honorary SolarWorld Einstein Award upon Ratterman, recognizing the
extensive work of the solar pioneer whose life was tragically made short in
the disastrous Haiti earthquake in January. As a co-founder of SunEnergy
Power, Ratterman dedicated himself to research and groundwork in the less
fortunate regions of the world. Ratterman was also a cooperation partner in
the Solar2World program run by SolarWorld and was responsible for the solar
electrification of hospitals in Haiti . The award was personally received by
      his family.

SolarWorld are exhibiting on Level 2, Hall 1, Booth C10.
