Supposedly I want to build a farmhouse to be solar
& wind powered at 12, 24 or 48 volts - no utility connection. Do they
make appliances that run entirely at these voltages?
You will find your choices of DC
electrical devices is very limited. And yes they are expensive.
If you are going to the trouble and expense of building a battery based
solar PV system, go ahead and invest in an inverter so you can run virtually
every device you already own on 120V AC power. You will ultimately have a much
larger variety of "stuff" to choose from.
