      Hi Kim!

The reply to your answer is. . .yes, do want to keep this Yahoo listserv. Why? Because it's a good forum with over 500+ members. Although the current version of the new website has a "discussion" feature, we do not know its full functionality and/or limits and thus haven't activated it. There are a lot of great discussions that take place here.

We'll continue to post events here, but we'll remind everyone to always check with the FULL calendar of events on the new website. As you know, there are limits to the number of times one can post information before it gets tagged as spam. The website's events calendar will show an event up until a day after the event. I wouldn't rely so much on this tool for events because it's easy to forget a date if it was posted one or two weeks in advance and it's difficult to search. Sometimes events get posted a month in advance! It's easy to forget...

Another reason for having an events calendar on the website is so people outside of this group can see an active HREG. Out of towners need to know that we're alive, we exist, and that we do things. We'll attract more people who'll want to join and support us (physically and financially). Did you notice we want to raise funds for scholarships (under programs > student outreach)? http://houstonrenewableenergy.org/category/events/

HREG's Facebook page is a different issue. It supplements the official HREG website. Like you, I do not have a personal Facebook account... But there are many people who do. Again, we want to capture folks' attention through that medium as well. What I like about it is that we can put a face to our numbers, and skeptics and naysayers cannot deny the warm bodies shown on the right side of the website. These (we) are real people who support renewable energy.  https://www.facebook.com/HoustonRenewableEnergyGroup

In a nutshell, let's use all best the avenues to reach people. This yahoo listserv has its place and purpose here. Yours was a good question. Thank you for posing it so everyone can understand the strategy going forward.

      Best regards,
      Violeta ;)

      Hello Everyone!

I trust this message finds you well. . .

We've been busy working on the new HREG website and finally. . .it's up (we still have a few minor, teeny tiny tweaks to make though). http://houstonrenewableenergy.org/

Going forward, all HREG produced and sponsored events will be posted on the website's calendar in addition to partner events which tie in with our mission of a sustainable, energy efficient future.
      http://houstonrenewableenergy.org/category/events/

Next, our Facebook page has a lot of good information from being in the trenches. I encourage you to check that out as well and feel free to LIKE us. Remember that Houston is an international destination, and we want the world to know that we do believe in renewable energy. Let's show our numbers to the wide world out there and put a face to it! https://www.facebook.com/HoustonRenewableEnergyGroup

Finally, it's an honor to assume the helm of the Houston Renewable Energy Group. I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent you, Houston, and renewable energy interests. I will carry the torch as my predecessors did and do my best to elevate HREG to the next level it deserves.

I'm really excited with what's in the plans for the coming months and look forward to meeting you! And, as always. . .please let me know of your ideas. ;)

      Warmly,

      Violeta Archer

      Greetings,
Will you be continuing to post events for HREG on this list?  There are
many of us who don't do facebook.  This is why I continue to maintain
this list.  With all the new outlets, does HREG still want this list?

      Bright Blessings,
