  • You may want to re-read what Cameron wrote below; he said nothing about not *wanting* to run another qualifier, rather the issue is one of unknown/unforeseen temporary circumstances preventing one from being able to run another qualifier. • Kimba - Yes! He still got riled up about it...I'm glad you got to hear the story first hand! Steve - I had forgotten about the spilled water -- but of course, that was the key turning point of the saga and the beginning of the end for him that day...it's too bad that it ended up costing him money but the story he got in exchange is priceless! • Mike - Yes, true, relative to their lot of tickets it may seem to be worth less to them; but this is an artifact of their bad lottery luck being artificially inflated and counted more heavily. A hundred dollars is a hundred dollars. That amount of money will mean more or less to someone personally based on many factors but it's still a hundred dollars. Because the "Never Started...

  • Brad - I think you are looking at this from the, shall we say, wrong direction. The service tickets are worth the same to everyone, I think your formulas correctly represent that. The difference, and why it may appear as you perceive, is that the "Never Started" people have their previous unsuccessful attempts to get in weighted more heavily than those that have finished or not...

  • Steve - Are you this crass and pompous in person or does it just seem to always come across that way in email? • You are missing something. See page 4 of the app. It states: "For Standard iii, attach a copy of official run results, official run web page, or UltraRunning Magazine listing. Ensure your name and date of run are highlighted." It's in the middle of the page, below the "Standard ii" box -- not exactly the best location in terms of clarity of form design but it is clearly there...

  • Interesting. How are you defining "progressive" here and more to the point, what are the aspects of the current HR lottery system that you feel are not "progressive"? The DNFer is already effectively penalized WRT to a waitlister in that if they start and don't finish, they don't get the ticket; so the following year, the waitlister starts off in a better position when compared to...

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/mjcbur/sets/72157624381132772/ The actual Hardrock photos are the bottom third of this set. Much of the rest are from the peak bagging I did while acclimating out there. There are captions/descriptions at the bottom of some of the photos but if you do the "slideshow" these are not visible.
