  • Matt, since you have considerable experience with running in FiveFingers, you should write Vibram a letter. With very little addition (like a forefoot rock-plate of carbonfiber or durable plastic sheeting), they could probably have a model suited for rockier terrain, with only one more gram of weight. Would that work? Companies thirst for seasoned advice. They'd probably give you...

  • From Leadville, That is too funny! Luckily, I was one of the first to sign up for the Ellteewonhunert. But if I was late, I'm sure I would have recieved alarmed beseechments from Merilee or the Ken-man to join their ranks, lest the race be less than all that it can be. Speaking of "all we can be" the military has guaranteed extra adventure this year with a course change. No humor...

  • There can be up to a foot of snow at in any month, but it is rare in summer. The months before and after summer are unreliable, but sometimes there's scant snow before Thanksgiving. You never know. So bring cold weather gear. Bring down vest and/or jacket and plenty of layers. The chance of snow varies more than the temps. Possible ice on the creeks and lakes in morning but nice...

  • The road direct from Silverton does require clearance, and it helps to have a bit of horsepower. My Honda CR-V barely made the last summit pitch in 1st gear. Even though shorter, this road may not be at all faster than the paved route. • I recently had a coworker slip on ice and shatter her wrist. Unlike my ankle that they screwed together 25 years ago, they wrapped thin metal around the splinters of bone. She was use it (very slowly and carefully) a couple of days later! I hope Deb faired as well. It's amazing how they've figured out how to slap us back together again. • I'm heading to HR Thursday morning. I will offer my pacing or crewing services to whoever wants it. I have years of climbing, trekking experience and I'm doing LT100 in Aug. Don't think of paying me - this is preliminary for me running HR in future. I need to see the course, etc. I have a cabin north of Ouray, but I can sleep anywhere. Call or email me.
