      Hardrockers,

Now that the lottery has been conducted, we can focus on reality. The
Silverton snowfall for the season is very close to average as you can
tell from the table below. However, the models continue to predict
below average precipitation and above average temperatures until about
May or June for the San Juan Mountains. After that, the models
predict average precipitation and warmer than average temperatures.

        Hi All,

Charlie's message reminded me that the snow reports I've been keeping track of could be shared with this group. If you're a data junkie like me, seeing the snow reports every month isn't nearly enough. I track the Red Mountain Pass report almost daily, where the 23" June 1 cutoff is calculated. The last three years are especially interesting as 2008 came pretty close to being cancelled due to snow, 2010 had basically no snow on the course, and 2009 was exactly in between. Anyway, I thought people might like to see the reports, so I put it on the website for the race I codirect, the McDonald Forest 50K here in sunny Corvallis Oregon. The page isn't linked to the rest of the site, so you'll have to bookmark it if you want to see it regularly, or come back to this message. All the historical data including 2011 is in the Excel .xls file, or you can see just the 2011 data in the pdf. Hope you have as much fun with it as I do. The link to the raw data on the USDA Snotel site is in the files as well. Hardrock rocks!
