BOARD ap classes & ap exams
- the post reports that since the fairfax county school board started
requiring students to take the advanced placement test at the end
of ap courses the number of test-takers in fairfax county has jumped
up by 52.3 percent. as expected, the percentage of fairfax students
with passing scores dropped from 75.4 percent in 1998 to 62 percent
the reason given by fairfax officials for making the end-of-course
THE TEST TAKING EXPERIENCE IS IMPORTANT IN PREPARING STUDENTS FOR COLLEGE
i, personally, am in favor of not only making the ap exams mandatory
but ALSO awarding students who score a 3 or above on the ap exam (high enough
to validate the course at many colleges) an "A" in the course, regardless
of what the class teacher thought of the student's classroom performance
(including more than 3 absences!).
make the students PERFORM in a standardized achievement examination
and then award appropriate REWARD.
