      Leo Lloyd Howard (March 1, 1912--January 26, 2002)

      McMinnville, Oregon. Leo Lloyd Howard, 89, died Saturday in
      Palm Desert, California. He was born in Hopkins, Minnesota to
      Lillie Eshelman and Harvey Howard. He was the oldest of eight
      children and lived on several farms in the Hopkins area while
      growing up. He graduated from Gaynor High School in 1932 and
      worked for his father on the farm. In 1937, at age 25, he
      moved to Valley Junction, Oregon and worked at a lumber mill,
      then drove a logging truck for White Brothers.

      He married Pebble Lawson on November 20, 1937 in Sheridan,
      Oregon and they moved to McMinnville in 1942. Leo bought his
      first logging truck in 1938 and continued logging until he sold
      his trucks in 1952. He then bought the Blitz Weinhard beer
      distributorship in McMinnville, and sold the business in 1972.
      He sold real estate for two years, then retired.

      He married Marcene Martens in March of 1961 in McMinnville.

      Leo enjoyed fishing (especially ocean fishing for salmon),
      hunting, and traveling. Since 1984, he has spent the winter
      months in Indio, California.

      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pebble; daughter,
      Judy Anderson; brothers, Roy, Carl and Eldon Howard; and
      grandson, Brandon Loop.

      Survivors include his wife, Marcene of McMinnville; daughter,
      Connie Heim of Keizer, Oregon; son, Coy Howard of McMinnville;
      sisters, Maxine Boyd of Lebanon, Oregon, Pauline Engel of
      McMinnville and Lorraine Pistole of Red Bluff, California;
      brother Don Howard of Crescent Mills, California; step-daughter,
      Carol Loop of Tigard, Oregon and Nancy Percell of Portland,
      Oregon; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

      Visiting will be 4-7 p.m. today, with services 11 a.m., Friday,
      February 1, all at Chapel of Macy & Son in McMinnville.
      Internment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum in
      McMinnville. Contributions may be made to American Cancer
      Society-Cancer Research, or to American Heart Association, care
      of Macy & Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville.
