Group Description

In many cases, after the new homesteader or small farmer has aquired some chickens, ducks soon follow; and often a pair of geese soon after that... The NEXT and perhaps even more useful and desirable animal for the small farm is the PIG...

Breed of choice is often determined by either color of the hog; or what's available in the locality. Some even opt for some of the rare and endangered breeds to help preserve the gene-pool.

The hog has been raised by man since the earliest times, and since it will eat nearly anything - some even feed themselves in the whole summer and were rounded up in the Fall. They are easy to keep. They will eat what you give them. They will plow your garden for you - Sometimes AFTER you have planted it!

This site is for the small farmer or hobby farmer. There will be NO SPAM! Violators will be banned... Everyone else is WELCOME!
