Thanks Andrius/Mendenyo: working?
- Dear Andrius and All,
Hello and thanks for YOUR prompt assistance too! As you say, it's the personal linkages which are most important, and also making sure that Sam himself and Ken are taken care of re the immediate needs of his stay. With the assistence of you and Maria, all of this--plus the flyers--can now be accomplished.
On Mendenyo, I signed up when it was first created, and have yet to get a post from that forum. I see you cc it, but again do not have a post. Is it operational? Hope you or Sam, when he returns to Mbita, will look into that.

>Please stay in Nairobi.
>I have just sent you 200 USD.
>This is my full payment for your part-time work that you will do for our
>Minciu Sodas laboratory in April, May, June.
>The fee was 27 USD and they also charge you about 3% for the conversion which
>is another 6 USD.
>Maria, Thank you for your prompt assistance!
>Samwel, Thank you for your prompt letter regarding your situation.
>Thank you also to Ken Owino for hosting you. It is great for us to have a
>base in Nairobi!
>Likewise, I am staying here in Chicago with David Ellison-Bey and making sure
>to be supportive of him with rent and help. He saves me a great deal of money
>and opens up a lot of opportunity and is a great friend, companion and elder.
>Samwel, please be good and fair as you know so that you can set an example and
>we can all benefit.
>Samwel and all, best wishes at the World Social Forum! I am sure that you
>will expand your horizons. For our lab, please know that you will make many
>contacts but the ones that matter for me are the ones that we will stay in
>touch with through our groups. I don't think that more than a few percent
>will sign up if you give them a flyer. It is therefore important that you
>sign them up yourself. You just need their permission and their email
>address. You and I can do the rest. If you get some information about their
>interests, that is very good. The flyer can help explain the possibilities.
>The real work is to have many many ten minute conversations and see if people
>agree to join or not. If they don't agree, then our lab won't have energy to
>stay connected with them, and you probably won't either.
>Also, focus on your own personal needs. Your Mendenyo group. You are
>interested in WiFi technology, so learn about that and engage those who are
>likewise interested or expert. Also focus on other areas of interest. This
>is a chance for you to meet people from around the world. We're trying to
>include the widest variety, and we do want more people from Asia and South
>America. And this is a great opportunity to strengthen our African work. We
>can find a place for everybody and their ideas, that is why we have the flyer,
>to help show that.
>Also, our lab is looking for clients. If you see businesses, organizations
>or individuals who you think we might work for, please approach them and
>consider possibilities and connect us. Our strength now is to collect
>stories (first hand accounts) and make good use of them to organize people
>and to explore questions.
>Great thanks to you and all who might help you reach out for us. Please let
>us know who they are! Please print as many flyers as you might need, up to
>50 EUR. There will be thousands of people, and if some can see our flyers,
>then that is good advertising and perhaps even somebody will respond. But I
>say from my own long experience that it is most important the people who you
>engage and whose permission you gain because they are confident because of
>your good character, good purpose, intelligence, compassion and your empathy
>for them and your ability to help them think of themselves as independent
>thinkers, that that is relevant to them. I am very excited that you are able
>to do this for us, our many leaders and our many groups.
>Hello Dear Maria, Sam, and All,
>Good to hear from you both, though very sorry abt this predicament, Sam!
>This sounds like the emergency we have been discussing, and hope you did
>bring some funds with you for that purpose. It's probably better, when
>travelling very far from home, not to rely on an ATM machine in any case,
>where you can also be robbed much more easily (as people see you withdraw)
>than if you had carried cash in a money belt you wear under your clothes at
>all times (showers included, haha!!).
>Maria, dear friend, as always you have come to the rescue, and hope you can
>pick up the funds in Nairobi today, Sam! Do you need more than what she
>sent, and for what purpose? If you need food or to give funds to Ken for
>your room, then let's see who else can help. If it's for printing and the
>like, I think you shouldn't worry too much...that's a great project, but not
>essential. You'll just have to "call" all the louder abt our efforts here,
>and am sure you'll attract admirers!
>With blessings and love, and again, greatest thanks to Maria!!!!! Janet
