Unleashing children's potential - Komarock Community's Book Donation
Dear Kenyans and friends of Kenya,
Komarock Community Development Network (KCDN) has organized a noble Christmas season charity activity whose effect will last long past the Christmas season. The activity is a Free primary Education (FPE) - Community support initiative aimed at putting a smile on the faces of 256 school children from poor households in Nairobi's Eastlands and also ensuring that “no child is left behind” in FPE through gifts of school text books, exercise books, geometrical sets, pens etc. This is a follow up activity to the Nairobi Peace run, a fundraising initiative held on June 15, 2008 where several text books and exercise books were distributed to 109 children. The activity will be graced by the presence of Ms. Leah Rotich, Director of Basic Education; Mr. Nyota, Deputy Director of Education, Nairobi City Council and Ms. Irene Wasike, Barclays Branch Manager (in her private capacity).
With the introduction of FPE, many children from poor families who were headed for the jails of illiteracy are now joyfully struggling to learn how to read and write. FPE is keeping the children’s dream of becoming a president, a doctor, a pilot, a teacher, an engineer among others alive. These children's joy, however, is often disrupted because their parents cannot afford to buy school text books and writing materials; and the situation is worse for orphaned children. The items that will be distributed have been donated by well wishers from Kenyans and friends of Kenya.
We are inviting you to show solidarity and celebrate with us the community’s achievement. Venue: KCDN offices, Komarock Phase II Shopping Centre; Date: Today, December 5th, 2008; Time: 10am -12noon.
