      Craig,

Senior hockey in BC was good enough that in the first
couple of years of the early 1950s, the naiscent PCHL
Vancouver and Victoria pro teams saw it such a threat
that in their arena leases, it was stipulated that no
senior hockey was to be played with either team's
arena, namely the Vancouver Forum and Memorial Arena.

Pretty much killed the sport after that, as one thing
that senior never had over the minor pros was
      cash-flow.

With Vancouver's last senior hcokey team, the
Kerrisdale Monarchs, their $500 or so deficet was
enough to almost sink the team in mid-season. The club
was re-organised as the Vancouver Wheelers and they
madeit until the end of the season. Vancouver
disappeared and the other league member, Nanaimo
Clippers dropped down to intermediate level.

What hurt Nanaimo was that they could not play senior
teams from their Island rival city of Victoria - well,
there weren't any because senior hockey was shut out
      of the Victoria rink.

      D!
