A smaller sibling to Endor Furnace in Lakeville, NY
- The Sterling Furnace in Lakeville, NY
Note the smaller scale, but similar construction.
Sterling Furnace Reconstruction, Lakeville (Tuxedo) NY
On the site of the original furnace, Citi Investing Company reconstructed Sterling Furnace #2 as part of a proposed development in the late 1950s, and then covered it with a neo-classical dome to protect it and give it prominence. No development ever occurred, and while the furnace has stood well, the dome is gone and the wooden structure has fallen into disrepair.
That is interesting. Did you note what one person wrote:
"Iron produced from this furnace (and mined locally from the Sterling Mine) was used to construct the chain that was put across the Hudson to keep the British from sailing north in the Revolutionary War."
