ICYMI: Tenant Lineup Unveiled for Riverwalk Outlet Mall

The development group revamping the Riverwalk Marketplace downtown into an upscale outlet mall announced today it has leased more than 90 percent of the planned retail space to tenants, including several national chains that are new to the city.
Howard Hughes Corp. said in a release that it plans to reopen the remodeled Riverwalk by late spring or early summer 2014 following a $70 million renovation that will add 50,000 square feet of space to the shopping center. VCC LLC of Irving, Texas is the general contractor for the renovation.
The nearly 70-store roster released this morning includes Last Call Studio by Neiman Marcus, which will be the first Neiman Marcus store in Louisiana. New Orleans-area newcomers include Tommy Bahama, Coach Men’s Factory Store, U.S. Polo Association Outlet, Hartstrings Childrenswear, Sunglass Warehouse, New Balance Factory Store, Red Mango and Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill.
The outlet mall will also offer Coach and Coach Men’s Factory Stores, LOFT Outlet, Chico’s Outlet, Kenneth Cole, Gap Outlet, and Famous Footwear. Notable food offerings include Café Du Monde, Mona’s Café, Raising Canes and The Fudgery.
The Howard Hughes Corp. release states that the outlet mall redevelopment will be the first of its kind in the country to be located in a downtown setting. It describes New Orleans as “under-served” in the retail sector and notes that the city has approximately 30 percent less square feet of retail per capita than the national average.
As part of the redevelopment, the Riverwalk will expand to a total of 250,000 square feet of space. Developers hope to attract local shoppers, while also taking advantage of downtown tourism and cruise ship traffic.
