      Hey Doug,

I hope everyone has enjoyed their summers, and that for those of you
heading back to school next week, everything's coming together well. The
start of the school year is a reminder that the new hockey season is just
around the corner, so look for a ton more activity in the HFNHL in the
coming weeks. With that in mind, here's some news:

I'd like to take this moment to formally welcome two new GMs to our league,
Joshua Pitt in Buffalo (joshua@...), and Lane Crawford in
Calgary (LaneCrawford@...). We have one other opening at present
in Carolina, as Travis Daley has had to step down. I am currently revewing
the application sreceived thus far to select an appropriate candiate, but
anyone else interested in encouraged to get in touch with me at
      <commish@...>.

In other news, the managing committee is making our way through the
      re-rating process - a very detail-intensive and time-consuming process, I
can tell you! The results will be posted as soon as possible, and then
teams will be given the opportunity to argue a few of the ratings for
players on their roster - more details to come.

Also, I'd like to confirm that we have, after much delay in availability,
finally been able to issue the prizes for our 2000/01 Stanley Cup and
Western Conference Champions. Martin Brassard of Montreal won a US$150
gift certficate to www.fansedge.com, a popular on-line sports merchandise
retailer, and Martin Jonsson of the Vancouver Canucks won a $50 gift
certificate. On behalf of the league, I'd like to express my sincere
thanks to our kind hosts at Hockey's Future for financing these prizes, and
for continuing to support our league so generously through
      Hockeysfuture.com!

Coming up soon: the long-awaited HFNHL Awards, a new GM for Carolina, a
proposed schedule for the 2001/02 season's major events, and a slew of
recent updates. Stay tuned - only two weeks before training camp!

      Douglas Emerson
      HFNHL Commissioner
