I love my new hex. Like to set up sched with you or anyone with a hex. I am presently waiting for a tower for my hex. I built a fiberglass tower-basically 2 parallel poles which are winched up. It won't hold in a hurricane.
Incidentally there was a ham in Ft. Lauderdale who had a traffie hex during Wilma but the hex did not survive. No antenna will. These storms are wicked. There was a Macy's down in Miami and I saw the side it just ripped right off. A hex is 6 toothpicks for a hurricane. Bruce

            Bruce, Ed, and Group,

I would love to participate in an Hex-Beam net. If someone would like to start such a net, I for one would be a regular member. I'm not very experienced in net operations or otherwise would volunteer to host this myself.

I'm located in the Seattle area and my K4KIO Hex has been on the air for about nine months now. I'll also be looking for Ed and Bruce on 20 Meters.

            73's Gordon, NW7D

In Florida no hex is going to survive a hurricane period. I'd rather be down $400 than $1200. Also most parts I can get at Home Depot for cheap.. I have the flex weave on my antenna, fiberglass spreaders and the metal base plate. What is the difference in strength-real or percieved??? Save bucks.. Bruce WB2LSU

                Hi,
there used to be a net.. It net once a week ran by a W5.. I forget his call..
But we could try again... I would not call it a net but a round table maybe...
Anyway had a thunderstorm last night and did not get on the air.. So will be on
Wednesday night after 630PM Mountain time... or 830 eastern... then am off for 4 days..
So we could try saturday. I am usually on most of the day.. usually around 14240...
                  so we will see...
Had a good time in the 7QP.. working into Seattle, OR, MT, Ut, CO,AZ,NV, and actually got called by 4 WY stations to boot.. I made about 500 contacts. Even got 2 NDand SD
stations in the log.. worked all but 4 states. Which ones i am not sure.. sooo not to bad 100 watts and the hex..

In Florida no hex is going to survive a hurricane period. I'd rather be down $400 than $1200. Also most parts I can get at Home Depot for cheap.. I would like to participate as well. I think it would be fun. I know
that Doug, W6HB (who was instrumental in me getting a Hexbeam) used to
participate in it a great deal.

I must admit, my Hexbeam is collecting dust lately as I have been
working the low bands more and more. However, the Hexbeam did help me
get my clean sweep last year in the CW Sweepstakes. I still love this
                    antenna.

Last fall, I took the antenna down for some maintenance and the thing
is still looking good. It has withstood 70mph winds we have had
recently (even up 8 feet off of the thrust bearing!).

Let me know if anyone wants to do a sked, Hexbeam to Hexbeam (CW,
                    Digital, or SSB)

In Florida no hex is going to survive a hurricane period. I'd rather be down $400 than $1200. Also most parts I can get at Home Depot for cheap.. I have the flex weave on my antenna, fiberglass spreaders and the metal base plate. What is the difference in strength-real or percieved??? Save bucks.. Bruce WB2LSU

I would STRONGLY urge anyone buying the Traffie to try to get Mike to use 7 strand 14g wire. The Wireman will suggest you do the same.

But am plainning on getting one from Leo and putting it up as a comparison and see for myself.. I do believe in a bargain and saving ones money.

Also enjoyed chatting with Ed from my Seattle QTH last night - my first Hex-to-Hex contact with my K4KIO/G3TXQ hexbeam. Yes, 20 meters has enjoyed some very nice openings lately and certainly makes up for when it it used to close around sun-down here. I still get a thrill out of busting some pile-ups with my Hex - just amazing!

But am plainning on getting one from Leo and putting it up as a comparison and see for myself.. I do believe in a bargain and saving ones money. But would rather buy one expensive one that will last years as compared to one I will have to fix or replace due to whatever comes. That makes it much more expensive.. And my time is worth money also...

The new design outperforms the old hex design as well. But am plainning on getting one from Leo and putting it up as a comparison and see for myself.. I do believe in a bargain and saving ones money. But would rather buy one expensive one that will last years as compared to one I will have to fix or replace due to whatever comes. That makes it much more expensive.. And my time is worth money also...
