Someone may ask why I seem to be picking on the Marxists here.   Actually, I don't care at all about the Marxists -- I only want to explain why Hegel's theological aspect has been denied a proper hearing for 185 years.
      .
The main reason for this denial (among others) is that the Marxists had co-opted Hegel for political purposes for more than a century.
      .
I realize that my claim is fairly new in Hegel studies as well as in historiography.  Most Hegel literature and all of the 20th century Hegel canon is against me -- for this very reason. Adorno, Althusser, Bakunin, Croce, Derrida, Gentile, Gramsci, Habermas, Hyppolite, Kautsky, Kojeve, Lenin, Lukacs, Marcuse, Plekhanov, Webb -- and a still longer list of canonical writers have promoted Marx's upside-down Hegel.
      .
I wouldn't challenge all these famous writers unless I was quite certain that my claim is valid. It must seem radical -- challenging more than a century of the Hegel canon.  But I'm not being bull-headed -- I maintain that I'm being unbiased and objective.
      .
Yet how could all these famous writers of the past century fail to recognize this clear and important point?  Evidently because they built their work upon each other -- the experts referred to other experts, and they were therefore all content to "turn Hegel upside down."
      .
The USSR Progress Publishers did their best to foment this Marxist upside-down Hegel -- and most bourgeois writers (as Sartre observed) were so terrified of Marx that they never carefully read Hegel -- and just accepted the Marxist upside-down Hegel.
      .
After the USSR fell in 1990, however, scholarship in the West is less terrified of Marx and so less terrified of Hegel.  We have finally got around to studying Hegel and letting Hegel be Hegel. What we find -- first of all -- is that the Marxists (and other Atheists) have presented an upside-down Hegel for more than a century.
      .
I present this as a historical fact with no small significance. It's a breakthrough, IMHO, both in philosophy and in 20th century history.
      .
      Best regards,

        Randall,

"What can I say? I feel like a little school girl next to you Alan."

Have you read the abstract for his dissertation yet?

        Best,

What can I say? I feel like a little school girl next to you Alan.  It's like you can read my mind with your intellectual x-ray. I don't even remember why I'm hurting, but yes it hurts. All over my body.  It hurts bad.   And yes I am definitely lost. I don't  even know where I am anymore or why I'm here.
