Well, John, if you're going to use my name, at least get my proposal right. I never proposed that Hegel's PhG is "some sort of secret history of Hinduism."What I propose is that Hegel's Unhappy Consciousness refers to a proto-Hindu Religion. I say that Hinduism is the oldest Religion on Earth today -- but it is not the oldest in History. There are many dead Religions that History has handed to us -- the ancient Sumerian Religion -- the ancient Egyptian Religion; the ancient Egyptian Religion and the ancient Babylonian Religion. All these are older than Hinduism -- yet I perceive many traces in Hinduism which reflect these more ancient Religions. So, Hinduism is our best starting point, because it is still a Living Religion. What I proposed (and you are probably aware) is that Hegel's brief section on the "Unhappy Consciousness" in his PhG, refers to a Religion of Penance and Prayers for Forgiveness.I stand by this, since I can show it in Hinduism -- and furthermore, nobody has yet provided any semblance of a solid basis for the 20th century canon which insists that Hegel's section is about Christianity.I'm not looking for clever remarks or guesswork -- but Reason and History.Regards,--Paul - << Previous post in topic Next post in topic >>
