Yes Marta, the SPE does help keep a sleeping pad from folding up under you and causing bulges. I ll have demos with me next weekend..Ed Moderator, Hammock

      Subject: [Hammock Camping] wrinkly pad

Over Memorial Day weekend, I went on my first hike with hammock. (I
don't count the previous overnighter because that night I slept in a
tarptent and my husband slept in the hammock.) The hammock was great
and I really liked being able to set up on steep, rocky, or otherwise
      un-tent-able ground.

Because it's almost summer (though it did not feel like it that
weekend), I didn't bring the Pea Pod along, but did bring a closed-cell
foam pad. I used one of the thin gray pads from Ed. For cover, I used
a sleeping quilt I made, so there was no nylon between me and the pad,
although I was wearing a full set of wool long underwear, not to
mention socks and a hat. By morning the pad was all crunched up
underneath me. Any suggestions? Does the SPE help with this problem?

BTW, this weekend my ever-so-handy husband has put up eyebolts on the
screened porch, so we can hammock in comfort. I had been setting up in
the copse of trees behind the house but yesterday morning, when I went
to slip into my plastic sandals, some slugs had slithered up onto
them...which provoked the desire to move the hammock onto the porch.

      Marta
