Good morning hammock hangers,
Has anyone else seen the new movie, Master and Commander, and
whispered to their significant other: "Ah! This is a hammock movie"?
Last night, I was asleep in the hammock with a Psolar balaclava over
my mouth and nose and inside the TravelPod, zipped up all the way
except for a 2 inch hole. That hole was about 3 inches above my face.
I suddenly awoke with urgent clostrophobia! I had been dreaming
someone was sewing my hammock up, and they were about to put the last
stitch through my nose! If you have not seen the movie, this may seem
strange. Well, even if you have seen the movie, it may seem strange.
I almost never have any problem with closed spaces. The last time I
felt a little like that was when I became a "little confused" crawling
around on my knees with my 10 year old son in the "mine" under
Rhinefells Castle in Deutchland 12 years ago.
First thing I had to do was to open the TravelPod a few more inches
and stick my head out. Second thing was to pull the balaclava off my
nose and mouth. After my heart started slowing down, I put my head
back down and went to sleep without the balaclava. I was quite warm,
and did not need it.
A few hours later, My ears were just a little cool to the touch, so I
put the balaclava back on. I had stored it inside the travel pod,
under my shoulders and it was easy to reach. I was able to wear it
again, even over my nose, though that took a little gentle persuasion
over a couple minutes to get used to again.
I don't know if my feelings were entirely psychologic, from the dream.
It could be that I have some repressed memory of being blindfolded
and gagged that the balaclava was bringing forth. (We do strange
things in some of our Air Force training.) Maybe I was just hot from
too much insulation and my body wanted some cool air. Maybe the
carbon dioxide level in the head end of the hammock/TravelPod had
increased and I needed more oxygen.
Later, I found I was a lot more comfortable with the balaclava not
covering my nose. Maybe it will be different tonight when it is
forecast to be in the mid twenties and blowing 15-25 mph. Maybe my
nose will be cold and covering it will feel good.
Happy holidays! Comments welcome.
