Yesterday I began construction of the control rod (staff). I took
the old metal lid which was cut off the top of the barrel, and put
wooden braces on it. The lid sits inside the barrel a little ways. The
lid has hole in the top 6" in diameter. The staff is built from a wood
rod, with a 4" nail on the end. The staff is 8.5" tall, and has a disc
magnet 3 and 5/16" in diameter, with a 1.25" hole, on top. The staff
floats on a ring of magnets, with a 3" inside diameter. The ring is
supported by wood braces that attach it to the top of the barrel.
Tomorrow we leave, will be gone a week, but I will complete the final
assembly of the control rod, plunger magnet, and steel covering when I
return. Updates will follow.
