I loved being out there saturday - i think the weather was nearly
perfect (better a little cold than too warm!) and the fun & friendly
people, great support, super goodies & food (the race where you can
run 31 miles and GAIN weight) made it a terrific day. the only
downside is that I do have a new injury to add to my collection and
am now a little less confident about attempting my first 50 miler in
Feb (at rocky raccoon). It was great to see you all out there! i
hope to be in bandera (w/Todd pulling me thru once again) in 4 weeks.

Quick reflections on a great day in the woods -

Thanks to Michelle W. for doing the driving and giving me a stress-free way
to start the day, and a very relaxing ride home! Knowing she was waiting
for me was a good incentive to bring it on in at the end, right about mile
28 when I began to have a little bit of self-doubt.

Thanks to Ron D. for reminding me not to fall as I started out on my trek, I
believe the curse is lifted, Ron, I stayed upright the entire time. Now we
will all be pulling for you to be back out there as soon as you can.

Thanks to all the friends out there on the trail who were always encouraging
me and lifted my spirits, even though many of them were doing the 50-miler
and should have probably been saving their energy! You are all my heroes.
We'll see if I can make the 50 miles again at Rocky Raccoon in Feb. and hope
              it was not a fluke.

And thanks to the Hill Country Trail Runners for offering to share their
tent. Their generosity motivated me to join up. They are a great bunch of
folks (I guess most trail runners are!).

Note to self: remember to take off the warm-up pants before running! I lost
a good 3 minutes after the first 10K loop just taking off those extra pants
and trying to remember where I had put my bag. But at least I was warm!

Note to self #2: Trail shoes really do rock! I have a pair of Puma trail
shoes that are so light they feel like ballet shoes on my feet but were
awesome support and protection. Why I didn't take the plunge earlier, I
don't know. Not a single blister or hot spot to be found.

So I'm finishing 2006 finally injury free (knock on wood) other than the
random complaints of advancing age. This is a great way to feel alive!

Take care and congratulations to everyone.

              Kathryn
