Logion # 46
- Logion #46 has Jesus saying that "of those born of woman", none is
superior to John the Baptist.
Does anyone out there have a theory (doctrinal) as to why Jesus,
himself born of Mary (a woman), would suggest by way of this logion
that John the Baptist is (by extension) even "greater" than himself ?
Is this simply a "post baptism" saying wherein Jesus now considers
himself to be born of the Spirit and thus no longer "born of woman"?
... or, is the context of this saying one where Jesus is refering to
"prophets" as opposed to all mankind ... i.e. "Of all prophets born of
woman, none is greater than John the Baptist" ???
