      4) Jesus said, "The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small
child seven days old about the place of life, and he will live. For many
who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same."
      "Don't think me unkind
      Words are hard to find
They're only cheques I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

      Poets, priests and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
      And no-one's jamming their transmission
And when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you"
For people who aren't put off by the seven day old mind --there is an
alternative list which spun out of the "scholars' list" last winter. We
wanted to get the wide-ranging and sometimes distracting discussions
concerning the GOT into a forum which would not be offensive to the
specialists and scholars. Here is our "List Netiquette'" as an example:

      >GOT-L provides a forum for all kinds of GOT-related discussions. The
following suggested behavioral guidelines apply to make the list work as
well as possible. No set of guidelines will work for everyone. If you find
these particular guidelines to be a problem for you, please, lets talk
about it. if that fails, consider signing off and creating your own list
(try ONElist at http://www.onelist.com or eGroups at http://www.egroups.com
      for free mailing lists).
      > 'Netiquette':
      >NO PERSONAL ATTACKS: Be careful about criticizing members, criticize ideas
instead. In particular, beware of telling members that you know all about
them and how they think. Stick to the ideas contained in the person's posts.
      >AVOID LONG QUOTES: When replying to a message, 'quote the relevant parts
of the message. However, you should delete all the unrelated material,
which everyone has already read. If you receive GOT-L in digest form, be
sure to delete all the unrelated posts in the digest: otherwise, your
5-line reply may be followed by too much quoted text.
      >USE COMMON SENSE: If you think a post is way out of your perception,
ignore and delete it. Responding just encourages cycles of frustration. If
you have a problem with a posting, write privately to the poster and/or to
      the list manager.
      >"BECOME PASSERS-BY" Do not get your personal ego attached to any
discussion. If you feel the discussion goes against you, you may also feel
unduly hurt. If you have any questions about a post you are about to send -
don't send it. Wait for 12 hours or more - and look at it again.
      >DO DILIGENCE: Study your subject and be fully aware of what you are saying
--claiming --etc. Be ready to support your position. "Dogmatism is puppyism
      come to its full growth."
      >ANSWER YOUR BEST CRITICS. Answer their best points. The best discussions
are works of beauty that you and your companions are creating together. If
you answer your fellow member's weakest point, and then they pick out the
weakest point of your answer, you both together are choosing to have the
most negative discussion you could possibly have. When you choose to bring
out the best in one-another we have a chance to expand our own and our
      fellow member's consciousness.
      >JUNK MAIL. Don't do it! This includes chain letters, hoaxes,
unsubstantiated virus warnings, get-rich-quick schemes, and advertisements.
If you are wondering whether something is a hoax, check the CIAC Web site
at http://ciac.llnl.gov or just run the name of virus or story on your web
      search engine.
      > THE SUBJECT: Should you change the subject of a post "thread", change the
      subject heading, as well.
