Ogg: [greenwichcyclists] New Year's Day 2013 Ride to Erith - Tuesday 1 January 2013 - Ride Report [2 Attachments]
2013 was welcomed at Cutty Sark Gardens with a faint smell of fireworks and a brilliant blue sky. Also 20+ plus cyclists, some of whom were meeting a Bromley ride. An early puncture briefly delayed our departure but 21 left to ride eastwards on our now traditional New Year's Day Ride to Erith. We met five more at Woolwich Arsenal. The Thames Path was busy with photographers trying out their new Christmas cameras, joggers wearing in their new running shoes, cyclists of all ages learning to ride their new bikes, and dogwalkers who we hope will keep their new pet for life and not just for Christmas. Everyone we met seemed in a jolly mood and passed on the compliments of the season. The advance party reached Erith Pier at 12.30 pm then made their way to the only cafe in Erith which was open, so very busy. The back up group arrived after repairing various punctures but missing the pier. Some riders peeled off to make their own way hom! e while the remainder left the delights of Erith at 2.00 pm for a quick ride back to Greenwich and into the wind. We cut out some of the peninsula path and seven returned to Cutty Sark Gardens at 3.40 pm with very muddy bikes. Hope everyone enjoyed the day and got home safely. A great start to 2013.
