11641FRIDAY POST: 25th July (with attachment)
- Jul 25, 2014
Apologies, with attachment this time!
Did you know that thanks to our supporters 43% of borough councillors
support local measures to create Space for Cycling on their patch?
And that Space for Cycling has majority support in over half of London's
boroughs? Check whether your councillor is on board at
Wow, it’s hot!
This week, there’s some information on Ride London and promoting the led rides (please do read) as well as reminders for the imminent deadline for submitting board nominations and AGM motions (4th August).
I have also attached the Local Groups Forum meeting minutes from the 15th July. Please do glance through these, especially if you weren’t able to attend.
I’ve included a bit more on emailing councillors below and a call out to let me know what activities you have planned in terms of following up with councillors.
Happy Cycling in the sun!

RIDE LONDON – LED RIDES AND PROMOTION UPDATE
Posters about the led rides went out yesterday (designed by the wonderful Eliza Southwood)– look out for these, and do put them up around your borough. If you tweet @london_cycling with a photo of the poster in a great location, we will find a prize for the best spot!
You (or your ride leaders) should have received an email yesterday from Charlie G, calling for final details from groups. The things we need ASAP are as below:
· A map of your route (if you haven’t already sent it over).
· A risk assessment for the route – Charlie attached an example in his email which can just be briefly edited with any updates specific to your ride.
· T-shirt sizes for any of the marshals (and ride leaders!) you are bringing.
· Names of any marshals you have recruited if we don’t have them already
· If you DON’T want t-shirts / tabards just to be sent to the ride leader, then he will also need addresses of marshals.
LCC still need marshals for the led rides, please email Charlieg@... if you know anyone able to help. More info http://lcc.org.uk/articles/prudential-ridelondon-2014-get-involved
FREECYCLE LED RIDE REGISTRATION
Please urge people to sign up for the led rides via this link: http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/The_Events/Prudential_RideLondon_FreeCycle/Register.htm
Please forward the link to your mailing lists, local schools, community groups etc and share on your social media channels. There are rides form all boroughs except City and K&C
BOARD ELECTIONS AND AGM MOTIONS – deadline looming!
The 2014 LCC Annual General Meeting & Campaigners' Conference will be on Saturday 11th October, 9:30 – 17:00.. Agenda items will include motions for debate and decision, final voting in the 2014 LCC Board of Trustee Election and declaration of the result, and the 2014 Campaigner Awards. The full agenda will be announced in the September 2014 edition of London Cyclist.
The deadline for both nominations to the 2014 Board Elections and motions to the AGM is 9 a.m., Monday 4th August.
More info is here (Board Elections): http://lcc.org.uk/pages/board-elections
and here (Motions): http://lcc.org.uk/pages/agm-and-campaigners-conference
Please do encourage any interested people to put themselves forward, particularly any female candidates who may wish to stand. And we would very much encrouage individuals and groups to put forward motions. Remember, the board (and in turn, LCC staff) take instruction on what we work on, from the AGM i.e. YOU! So use this as your opportunity to influence and direct LCC policy, activity and campaigns.
As you know, we emailed all newly elected councillors (from Ashok), welcoming them to the role a few weeks ago. I am forwarding on any relevant responses from councillors to groups to follow up on, please keep an eye out for these. Many councillors are requesting meetings with groups to discuss the asks further. It would be great if you can respond to these. We’re getting a few more sign ups too, from people who perhaps didn’t read or receive emails from us before the election. I will forward those emails on to you to see any new supportive councillors, and the website will be updated too: http://action.space4cycling.org/
We’re looking to work out activities for the autumn, which will include calling on councillors to feedback on what they are doing to progress the asks. I’ll share plans as soon as we have something a bit more refined.
If your group is already writing to councillors or planning any activities, please do share these with me, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
POLICY FORUM SEMINARS
Booking is now open for September's seminar on Current Cycling Research. Details here -
REMINDER: REGISTERING EVENTS
Just a reminder to remember to add your events, such as group meetings, rides and activities on the LCC events page. By doing this, it means the event is an ‘official’ LCC event and is covered by LCC insurance should anything untoward happen. It also means that more people are able to search and find out what’s going on locally via the website. You can register them here after you’ve registered with a profile on the website http://lcc.org.uk/events
