I thought I let you know why this matters to us.
Both  Green candidate McKinney and Indy candidate Nader and other 2 candidates will be there to debate, in this one state parties Pres. nomination there seeking- Nader leads in the election last Feb. with McKinney came in 2nd.
Many think there will a be a move to choose one other 2 candidates , to try get  a socialist candidate, and effort also try to get one candidate in other states socialistic parties.
Its socialism as the one ideal among many good ideals, some people refer themselves as Democratic Socialist (like I tend sometimes call myself), and those see it as only ideal.
I'm capitalist too, as most of us haft to be to ear a living. I believe you need not only fight for common good, but your own common good as well. So maybe I'm a Capitalistic Socialist.
There also US Communists Party(if there is such a thing, far as having 1 face in all states). Not any party probably really has that, except maybe the Greens(ya, us).
The Communists Party Governments, see's themselves which view themselves as Socialist, even tough are truly dictatorships in guise of  socialism. The US Communists Party was growing party during the Depression, and its at least why 2 Party system created such programs as social security. There views are currently in US anyway more socialistic, but refuse see how horrible Stalin and other Communist Governments where to live under, these days much more socialistic,
Peace Freedom Party created in the 6O's and where was other states I believe, came out of a era of such reforms, and though never gain any offices I think, it did no dought the influence on social reforms of the 60's and 70's, though probably not much as did Communist did in the 30's.  I join it before I became green in 92, in late 80s, but quickly became disillusion as Communist tried to take it over, and mostly did for a while. The Greens is full of former Peace and Freedom members. There's been movement for years by many to bring them into green party, or create partnership. The party is becoming smaller over years, and where use run many candidates, now is threaten with loosing its ballot access.  Well enough on that for now.

The convention meeting will convene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 2 at the Hawthorne Suites, 321 Bercut Dr., Sacramento. A debate among our four candidates will be in the same location on Friday, August 1 at 7 p.m. The credentials committee has noted that 101 members have been elected.

Within weeks of forming a union, employees of Bay Area News Group were shocked at the seemingly retaliatory firings of at least 20 journalists who had worked to form the East Bay bargaining unit. Last week, the Northern California Media Workers Guild filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board. The 230-member Bay Area News Group East Bay bargaining unit includes the Oakland Tribune and other East Bay papers, as well as the San Mateo County Times on the peninsula.

Wed Jul 23 2008 (Updated 07/24/08) Judge Rules Against Berkeley Oaks And For University
On July 22nd, Judge Barbara Miller upheld U.C. Berkeley's plans for an athletic training center in the Memorial Oak Grove. The order will end an injunction that had blocked destruction of the grove. On Thursday, July 24th, the Berkeley City Council will likely make its final decision about whether or not to pursue an appeal. Supporters of an appeal plan will meet at the grove at 3:30pm and march to City Hall at 4pm before the 5pm public hearing.

On July 22nd, over 3,000 people rallied at the Port of Oakland to protest against pollution and poverty. Many truck drivers at the port make as little as $8 an hour and receive no benefits. The port trucking system requires drivers to sit idle in their trucks for hours everyday while their trucks spew out toxic diesel emissions. Port diesel pollution is associated with high rates of cancer and asthma. As a result, cancer and asthma rates are higher in West Oakland than other parts of the Bay Area.
