Andrew comes from the Greek name Andreas, whcih means "Manly" or
"Couragious." In Gothic it's AndraĆas, acc -an, gen -ins, dat -in.
Andrea, being the feminine of Andrew would therefore mean "Manly
Woman"... which is pretty amusing. Tell that to all your friends named
Andrea. Likewise, Alexandra for similar reasons, means "She who Repells
Men" (because "He Who Repells Men [in battle]" is a nice name, then
someone came along and feminized it). But this has very little to do
with Gothic, so I'll stop here.
