GB2218: Thursday 11 May: The China Debate at SOAS
- Message 2218:
THURSDAY 11 MAY (evening): "BEYOND IDEOLOGIES: CHINA'S EXPERIENCE IN CONFRONTING THE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS" at SOAS (free event, followed by reception, but online registration through Eventbrite required by Friday 28 April)
(Optional) Meeting and Venue Details: Meet Gordon on Thursday 11 May , between 5.20pm and 5.30pm, at Russell Square tube station (Piccadilly Line, Zone 1) in the ticket hall to go to the Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre in the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS - http://www.soas.ac.uk ), WC1H 0XG. To view a street plan, go to http://tinyurl.com/22omno . If you are coming from Russell Square, the Brunei Gallery building is on your left as you enter the SOAS precinct. After entering the building, turn left, check in at the registration desk and go downstairs to the basement.
The Event: This event will take the form of a debate and panel discussion and will be followed by a drinks reception. China, the second largest economy and "the factory of the world", occupies a pivotal place in global efforts to confront environmental challenges. This takes on new significance as Donald Trump, the current president of the largest economy and the world’s only remaining superpower, is sceptical of climate change and seems unwilling to take a leading role in the search for solutions. If all eyes are not yet on China, they may well be in the near future. You can see further details of this event and of the panellists at https://www.soas.ac.uk/china-institute/events/the-china-debate/11may2017-beyond-ideologies-chinas-experience-in-confronting-the-global-environmental-crisis.html .Timings: 5.30pm - doors open; 6pm - event starts; 8pm (approximately) - drinks reception starts in the Brunei Gallery Suite on the ground floor.
Booking for this Event: To book, go to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/beyond-ideologies-chinas-experience-in-confronting-the-global-environmental-crisis-tickets-32564719954?invite=&err=29&referrer=&discount=&affiliate=&eventpassword=#loginbox , click on "Register", select the number of places you require, click on "Checkout", and then complete and submit the registration form. You can reserve for others, but you need to give their names, e-mail addresses and other details. Unless anything else applies to you, I suggest you choose "SOAS website" or "Word of mouth" as the answer to the question "Where did you hear about this event?". This event is open to the public and there are no special arrangements for my group, so I suggest you book as soon as possible while places remain (unless extended, "sales" for this event will end on Friday 28 April). Please do not book unless you are sure that you will be able to attend, and do not book for others without first checking that they will be able to attend. If you have a question for the panel, you can submit this at the time of registration, so have it ready.
